Fram Oil Filter?

Girth i used the socket with no problems so i dunno what kinda socket u used.

Hmmm, interesting. I'm talking about using the socket WITH the bigger filter though - are you saying you used the socket to get the normal filter off? The socket worked fine for getting the normal filter off but there just wasn't enough room when it came to getting the 626 filter off.

I would have to assume our sockets would be about the same size....so I wonder if the P5 is just different from the MSP setup. Maybe the MSP has more junk in the way or something? All I know is that I could get the cap on the filter but couldn't get a socket on the cap for s*** with that bigger filter.

how come i haven't seen this thread earlier. When i decided to change my oi for the first timel the guy at the autozone convinced me to buy fram,and i have been using them ever since or roughly for 8 months. I just changed my oil to mobil one 10W30 and used the god damn fram filter again. Should i be worried about it now, or just not worry and just use diff. filter next time?

yes there IS a difference between MSP and regular non-turbo Proteges. the MSP has an OIL COOLER mounted on top of the oil filter inlet, and the oil filter mounts on top of that. so yeah MSPs will have about 1" less space to maneuver when installing oil filter

They should only be hand tightened when replaced. Nopefully it won't be too much of a problem getting it off next change.

Sorry, but your engine is going to blow up.(boom06) I've been using Fram filters on my car for well over a year with no problems. Used them on my previous car with no problem. My dad puts them on the family Taurus and his new Hemi Ram, no problems. Cool out a little. Better stuff to worry about than a filter you've yet to have any problems with.

ok, just to prove (or disprove) that Fram filters are still crap, i will go to Wal-Mart and get a $2 Fram filter and cut it open and take pictures and post here so we can decide if they are still crappy or not

I think $2 is not too much of an expense for an experiment that'll give peace of mind to many of us

I know filters should be hand tight i just got it snug. You cant get a good grip on it by hand specially if ur hands are greasy. Plus if it didnt wanna come off next time i always gotta breaker bar lol.

I went to the dealer today for coolant service, while I was there I went to the parts dept to buy some v6 626 filters (which will fit both my RX-7 and the Protege). At the parts dept they had a OEM 626 v6 filter (the same ones I bought) cut open and put on display. These are the Tennex-made filters, and let me tell ya, they look to be one of the THE BEST constructed filter I've ever seen. The filter element is composed of composite fiber elements (read NOT paper). TONS of pleats of the filter element, high quality metal endcaps well glued to the filter element. anti-drain back valve sits FLAT on the inlet holes. Just an overall wonderful looking piece of filter.

now I am convinced, I'll always buy OEM Mazda filters if possible

Like 2 days after i bought my oil Napa came out with a new filter. Its a nascar filter it looks awsome. It has swirl flow technology so the oil doesnt get turbulance and flows much better through the filter i will get 1 next time. Also im always using 5W-30 for now on performs better.
