Forum newbie with a new 09 Touring

recently added another Mazda to the fleet at my house, and found some great info here and wanted to say thanks. picked up an 09 CX-9 Touring in black cherry last week, from Wantagh Mazda , Wantagh NY (Long Island).

it joins my father-in-laws' 08 Miata (pictured), sister-in-laws' 08 3 sedan, mother-in-laws' Tribute, and wifeys' former ride, 00 Protege ES.

you could say we're into Mazdas.

welcome

Do all those Mazda's get serviced at Wantagh?

I need to get an inspection, oil change, hopefully new silver inserts (from recall) put in.

Thanks

i (we) do a lot of the simple stuff (oil changes) at home, but the newer cars especially go to wantagh mazda. even then, some days they do the work, some days we borrow the lifts and do it ourselves. special treatment!

matter of fact, just today i did new pads/rotors, drum shoes, tire rotation and oil change for the 00 protege in the driveway. in 2 hours flat!

Nice....2 hrs!

I too do regular maintenance, but need the inspection sticker, and want to take advantage of the TSB on the silver armrest paint issue, so gotta go to a dealer anyway, might as well have them mess with the Oil filter that will NOT come off.

I have an appt for tomorrow morning at the Great Neck Mazda.

Will post to all how it goes.

"...might as well have them mess with the Oil filter that will NOT come off."

Two words: SCREW DRIVER

I'll do my own brake service on our CX9, too. It's too simple not to. Transmission overhaul....different story.

SportsOwner,

Had the BFD (Big F'n Driver) in my hand, just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Since I gotta get it inspected and want to get the new silver armrest inserts (TSB for it), might as well have dealership do oil filter too.

Prob the first/last OC they will do on the 9

Unfortunately, the dealer will probably crank the new filter on just as tight. You're throwing it away any way, so shove that baby in and turn. Puncturing the filter allows you to get more oil out of it anyway.
