Forks Upgraded for MP3

Haven't you read some of the stuff on here...

I saw one post the guy said he was an excellent stick driver, yet he learned on an EVO...A car that has barely been out six months.

That hardly makes you an excellent anything IMHO.

Another guy blew his tranny by putting in a six puck clutch on stock power levels. Go figure, droipping the clutch kind of breaks things with a clutch like that.

Severe abuse has been the leading cause of broken trannies...

abusive is relative. Many other cars are built to take more of it then ours are. Its that simple. An EVO, STI, S2000, SRT all have far stronger setups to be sure of this.

I believe tripoint has to bebuild those trannies every 3 races.

I remember reading as well that they changed gears 2 and 5 (I think those were the two they changed) but they did change gears.

Supposedly the MSP has a stronger shift fork, so it shouldn't be a problem for MSPs. Also, ShyTampaMP3, where did you get this info? Mazda information means nothing around here without a TSB (technical service bulletin) or a dealer/person you got this info from. Why don't you tell us who you got this info from?

Chris

I've also heard the MSP has different forks. . .

And I would love part numbers or a TSB

i hardly consider myself a excellent stick driver, considering i've been driving one since march and i learned in march on a 2002 corvette (which has a MUCH stronger setup) and so far the only thing that is going out on the tranny is the clutch cuz i haven't gotten it down yet. In all matters of speaking this car gets some abuse anytime i take ti to the lake roads and run it.

The gear ratios are different yes, but that has no bearing on the shifter forks, which is what everyone seems to destroy.

The only fork that is different is the clutch release fork in MSP, as fasr as I know. No one has shown otherwise there.

And part numbers or a TSB would be nice, yes...

As far as the rebuild issue goes, I'm not sure.

I remeber reading that evey few races they must replace the syncros.

Can someone tell me how to spell syncro correctly if this is wrong so I can search for it?

I learned to drive a stick on the FD lol....went through the stock clutch in a month! Now, after a year and a half of driving on a Stage I clutch, I have gotten pretty good...but like I said, I'd be careful...just don't want to blow anything

The transmission in the WC Protege is the weak link in the car. Transmission rebuilds are typically done every couple of races.

The Protege drivers did well with three cars in the Top-10 and it looks like Marinus, Hemminson and Foo had a good race amongst themselves, but were no match for Kleinubing in the RSX. Nobody was a match for the RSX actually. That car was just super fast during the race and I am sure this raised a couple of eyebrows. Either RealTime really hit on the set-up or SCCA Pro will be taking a look at this car.

On to Road Atlanta for Round Four on June 27-29 with ALMS. Anyone planning to make the trip to the race is invited to stop by SpeedSport and visit. I'm sure the same goes for the other Mazda teams as well.

Ok cool...

Yep, in that range...

I wonder what parts break down. Or do they do it just for precautionary matters?

Its the syncros. I am still looking for that staement. If I recall its also the syncros that have broken on most of the reported problem trannys on here.

Ok, cool...

Maybe we'll get this all to come together with a good post that will show exactly what breaks, why and what to do.

doomer i didnt look up any of this information or anything its from experience from 3 days ago. I broke my 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th fork but my tranny isnt under warranty anymore because of a clutch upgrade that the previous owner of my car had done. When i took my car in for repairs and we started ordering parts they told me the only way they warranty the parts is provided i buy the new upgraded fork rings. So i asked if this part should then just be offered to me seeing that they do acknowledge that there is a problem with the forks and have taking measures. They told me no the parts arent a recall because its not a safety issue. They said until someone say break their forks while drive and smack into a tree because of that then we should look forward to paying for them. Like i said its very ironic that they would tell me and my mechanic if we dont get the new fork rings they wont warranty the parts we get from them because they know it will break again. But like i said anyone interested do your self a favor the new rings seem like they are gonna be well worth it so get in contact with your dealer and try to see if they will put the new fork in. But more than likely unless you break your forks now and go in for one they wont do it under warranty.

I called my mazda dealer today about this, he said all he had in his computer was a new 3-4 fork. Cost around 40$

Also i talked to the only other local MP3 owner today for the first time, he jsut got his stock mp3 back from the dealer from getting his broken shift fork replaced. Also another MP3 owner (who sold his) in my area also had this same problem..

ShyTampaMp3 you got a part #, im gonna call him back and ask him about the fork ring also.

they gave me my forks back and lets just say it looked a hell of a lot different than the new one. It all depends though you can go from a small break to a well u get the idea. But when u get stuck in gear like that it actually breaks. And as for the part number i will get them for you by the end of the week. I just got my car back too last week still testing out the new forks making sure everything is fine. So far so good mazda is guaranteeing it wont happen again so we'll see.

ShyTampaMP3,
Could you call your dealer and get part numbers for the new parts, and possibly old parts that were replaced? This would help out greatly.

Chris

i need this part # my dealer searched the computer and found nothing on the new fork ring....

I will have the tranny open next saturday.. i would like to throw this in while its open..

Well, that just goes to show. Don't post information like this without proof (part numbers etc). You get a lot of people excited over nothing then.
