Forks Upgraded for MP3

I just thought it might be useful information to let everyone know that mazda has upgraded the forks for the mp3 under the basis of "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION". Yea i know what a load of crap but anyways we have to pay for them to get them put on and i believe they run for about 89 bucks or something like that. But the new fork rings are supposed to be stronger and pretty much stop our notorious broken shift fork tragedy.

so we have to pay for a fix to a known problem when our car is under warranty?

im sorry but mazda's warranty can kiss my ass, its been nothing but trouble so far.

yes, this should be covered under warranty!!!

also, where did you read this. im somewhat skeptical mazda would do something for CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

also seems funny how my car was in for service (new rear sus. bushings....again) monday of this week and i asked about the shift forks (if u look at them while someone shifts you can see them flex) they said that was the only shift fork mazda offered. if this keeps up someone at mazda is recieving one of my shfit forks in a very unpleasent manner.

i will have my tranny open next week, this might be worth looking into..

wouldnt this apply to all proteges not just the mp3??

I'm a customer and i'm unsatisfied.....give me the forks!!!! Seriuosly though, how is this not covered under warranty. What bulls***.

Stupid question - is the shift fork connected to the shifter at all, or is that more connected with the actual transmission - basically, would getting a short throw shifter help eliminate this problem?

Um, no...Go to "how things work" and read up on how a manual tranny works.

PS - There is no TSB on the original subject of this thread...Truth factor is nil, IMHO.

Ok here is some more info. As we all know our cars are just a pretty paint job and some pretty sexy rims. Oh yea and a bad ass head unit but anyways, since they used the exact same tranny in the regular proteges it became a problem because the fork rings are too small for our car. So all mazda has done is manufacture a bigger one to compensate for there tragic design flaw and yes if u just want it put in you have to pay for it. On the other hand seeing as just about every MP3 WILL end up with this fork problem which is why they made the part in the first place. You will probably break your forks and if you are under warranty when they replace it you will get the new rings.

Paul sry for responding so late but the new fork rings are available for anyone however if you are gettin work done by a non mazda dealer mazda makes them buy the new updated one. How weird huh, im pretty sure if you go in for forks right now they might give u the old crap they have in them now. But the new forks apparently will completely do away with that problem so i recommend it to anyone. I just got my car back yesterday i put in a ACT stage II clutch and i love it now especially not having it to the back of my head to take my hand of the shifter and being afraid of breaking the damn forks again.

I don't believe the forks on the MSP have a problem, actually im not sure whether or not they used the same forks on mp3 as they did on the msp. But if its the same then yes it would apply to it basically the rings were just too small for our car and they even admit that to us. Beucase the forks are constantly spinning when the car is in drive it chips away at them continiously and it was fine with the protege's but they failed to take into consideration the additional 10 hp though small but obviously relevant in this case. But i think the msp's are fine actually maybe its the forks on those theya re actually selling to us mp3 owners now.

Supposedly the MSP has a stronger shift fork, so it shouldn't be a problem for MSPs. Also, ShyTampaMP3, where did you get this info? Mazda information means nothing around here without a TSB (technical service bulletin) or a dealer/person you got this info from. Why don't you tell us who you got this info from?

This sounds like complete BS...

The stock tranny runs in the SWC cars with the same stuff inside for over 200 hp...NO PROBLEMS THERE.

Why would the ten horsepower in the MP3 kill the tranny?

It's called operator error...Do you part numbers for the parts you mention vs the old part numbers?

So people are shifting too hard and breaking stuff, huh?

Haven't you read some of the stuff on here...

I saw one post the guy said he was an excellent stick driver, yet he learned on an EVO...A car that has barely been out six months.

That hardly makes you an excellent anything IMHO.

Another guy blew his tranny by putting in a six puck clutch on stock power levels. Go figure, droipping the clutch kind of breaks things with a clutch like that.

Severe abuse has been the leading cause of broken trannies...

I believe tripoint has to bebuild those trannies every 3 races.
