Forge BOV

I said it before and I'll say it again, turkey is from compressor surge not the wastegate. My explanation is in various turkey related threads if anyone is interested or just pm me.

The turkey is NOT from compressure surge. Compressure surge or compressure stall does not sound like our turkey noise. The turkey or flutter noise is not the turbo being forced to go the wrong or opposite way. It would sound much different ....

and I too am looking forward to the release of this BPV.

I can't believe people argue this..If the turkey was coming from the wastegate, how could the sound travel out of the WG flapper, through the turbine wheel, through the shaft, out the compressor wheel, and out the air intake??It is compressor surge..Even the whopping 7psi of boost we run is no match for the monster of a plastic BPV we have..I used to get compressor surge after using the 2 inch diameter TIAL BOV on my galant if I shifted under 10-15 psi,15-30 psi would make it crack open with vengance...If you want to make the turkey go away, put the right BOV on there and make sure it is set right..And BTW when people say an external WG makes a similar noise thats wrong too..Flame away

Actually it is compressor surge. I heard it on numerous cars, plus purging air from the charge piping more efficiently gets rid of it. Also the air doesn't force the impeller blades to spin in the opposite direction. Its the pressurized air hitting the throttle body and then being reflected to the compressor housing then bouncing off of that. One of my friends who used to have a msp upgraded to a hks bov to get rid of the turkey and once the spring was properly set, voila, no more turkey.

Agreed, one of my friends has a greddy type R bov on his sr20 motor. The thing is huge but the spring was so still that even though he is running 20 psi he still had compressor surge and it wasnt fixed until he cut the spring on the valve. The wastegate thing makes little sense, even if it was it would happen on every car with a t25 and not to mention swapping valves and setting it correctly makes the problem go away. I have never heard an external wastegate sound like a turkey, all it sounds like is... well air being pushed out of a valve.

it's been a while since i stoped by in this thread....i didn't realize it had become and argument over turkey and comp surge. i have had multiple techs (not mazda) tell me that it is surge. including a tech that was on jotech's squad. i thought it was surge form day one. besides my proof no one has come up with outstanding proof to the contrary.

I'm not going to keep saying it. Even Callaway said it was not surge. This may be all semantics, it may depend on what you mean or think "surge" is.

Callaway is gonna say and do whatever makes their product look good. Its compressor surge hands down, fixing the bov/bpv cures the turkey. There is literally nothing else it could be.

Anyway back on topic.

When will this be out ! Should be cool to just replace our BPV with somethig that goes pshhhhhhhhhhhhh. :D

Forge in looking to make some samco style IC hoses for the MSP. If anyone cares to DONATE them that would expediate the process. For everyone one that whines about no one makes s*** for our cars. Here's your chance to help.

Donate what?

Just to let everyone know, I went to my local tuner shop that sells Forge products and they called up and ordered me the BOV. I was told it wasn't technically finished yet but it will work and comes with the hoses and clamps and all that good stuff. They offered me a choice of colors on the BOV itself and the hoses, I chose polished valve with black hoses. Total with tax came to 170 or so. I should have it at the beginning of next week but damn snow looks like its coming again so we'll see. I'll def. have pics up when I get the piece and sounds when I can get it installed. For the guys in this thread that already have it, was it hard to install? I'm hoping it will come with some kind of instructions but if it is a pre-production kit who knows. Thanks for any pointers or tips because I'm a dumbass when it comes in installations.

Mike
