Hey, I was just curious....for those of you w/ FMICs, how many of you have / have not had problems w/ cooling issues, & what FMIC have you got? Are you using anything else (new rad., water wetter, new fans, removed weatherstripping, etc...)

Also, if you have an FMIC, did you remove your stock intercooler? I've seen quite a few pics of peoples installs, and it looks like the stock intercoolers are still there...wouldn't just removing this increasing your cooling efficiency greatly?..I mean you're introducing a s*** load of airflow into the engine bay if it's not there.

Thanks...I just wanted to get an idea from those that have this done, and what works/ doesnt work b4 I get my FMIC next year.

I haven't received mine yet (hopefully this week), but that is one of the reasons why I went with Essential Speed. His FMIC is smaller than the rest so I'm not anticipating any cooling problems with mine since it will still allow some air to flow the radiator. I'll probably add some waterwetter just to be sure. I'm runnin the wetter in my prelude without any problems so why not add it to the protege.

I'll definitely be removing the stock intercooler. Why would you leave it on there if it will no longer be functioning

I am getting the spool FMIC, and Terry ensure me trhat there will no cooling problem, since he has it on other turbo kits too. The stock intercooler will stay, because you need it to support the radiator.

I have iON's FMIC, running purple ice with stock rad and fans. I have yet to have any cooling issues other than my a/c just went out. I think it is unrelated though. I don't have an extra coolant temp sensor like turboge, but I have not noticed it running any hotter with the new FMIC. The top of the IC only overlaps the bottom of the radiator a tiny bit.

I've had my Ion FMIC since the first weekend of August. I have never had any cooling issues.

Why do you think there will be cooling issues? It's not like the intercooler is a solid block. Besides, your A/C condenser is a much bigger hinderance than the I/C would ever be.

After I installed the AWR radiator and the OEM intercooler was deleted, I freed up a lot of surface area for air to hit as the condenser doesn't come over that far. Yes, temps did drop. But like i said, they weren't hight to begin with.

DON'T LEAVE THE STOCK COOLER! IT LOOKS SOOOOOO GAY!

Stupid me. I went to a track day and walked away from my car and left the hood open. My balls go busted huge for having a GT25 and 2 count'em 2 intercoolers. It was gone the next day.

Don't let this happen to you!

so the stock ic remains in place after the install of ion's or spool's fmic? interesting....couldn't you just get a small bracket to help support the radiator rather than keeping the stock ic in place?

The size of the intercooler will not effect the temp of the engine. With the flow going through the FMIC will keep the radiator cool aswell.

No overheating problems here at all. My needle is always a tad below 1/2. You might want to contact www.wagnermotorsports.net he has been looking for a speed to make a FMIC for. I think he might already have one, but it might be worth a shot.He also could do a custom one if you were worried about blocking the radiator to much.

Great info guys...thanks, and keep it comin'. I figure this thread can put to bed any cooling questions for lots of people, not just me. As for why I thought of this...well I have read some threads where people "claim" to be running "higher than normal" temps. Personally, I feel this is probably a perspective issue more than cold hard facts.

Spoolin...thanks...I know you've posted this up countless times before, so I'm sure you're just bored to tears w/ constantly answering these questions.

Just to clarify - I know that the FMIC doesn't block airflow, but it will increase the temps of the air coming through it...which is why I brought up the question. I also realize that smaller FMIC's will allow greater airflow, and bigger ones will be more of an impedence on airflow.

Paul - I don't have the $$$ now, but thanks for the info...It's great to see that there is an increased aftermarket interest in the MP3/MSP/P5.

i had a cooling problem.

505zoom. if you take your car to an a/c shop and they check it out the pressure in the lines might be too high to run the a/c with a front mount. i can't use my a/c b/c the condensor isn't getting enough air flow thus causing the high pressure thus causing the car to overheat. so i have some options, get better fans, get a thinner rad (mine is upgraded), or relocate the condensor.

good luck.

Bump....

I'm not an attention *****, just like to get more feedback. I know there are plenty more people out there w/ FMIC's that probably never saw this before it went to the bottom of the pile.

Thanks to all those that have put in thier $.02

Hehe missed this thread.....

I had some really bad cooling problems when I first installed the kit. But this is mainly due to the area I live in. In Southern California the temps can be up to 110F sometimes.. in this case the FMIC was blocking necessary airflow at all times to the radiator. Causing my Coolant temps to reach upwards of 226F.

I replaced my A/C fan with a SlimFan and going to replace my radiator fan with the same one so I cover the entire radiator with flow. Currently with cool weather below 80F my car doesn't exceed 205F. I also have 85% water 15% coolant and a bottle of water wetter.

I do notice my temps go up a little when i first fire up the A/C. But the new fans help cure that. I pulled out the factory IC to let more cold air in. Just drilled 2 holes for the other bracket and it is held in place.

i have spools fmic and have had no problems with cooling.no problems with fans and ac works great. had it since august and it getes pretty hot in jersey.i also left the stock intercooler in and just caped the end.

turboge, you got a link where i can get those fans that fit our radiator?

The ones I have fit the MSP radiator perfectly, 2 of them cover the whole area. I have the info at home, its a hot rod shop and the fans are by vintage air. 10x10x2.5 1438CFM

I have a question which make of I/C will give you the most horse power ans how much.

The question should be, which will give you the best thermal efficiency consistanly and produce effective power.

Interresting.............because the weather are the same here(Quebec , Canada), and maybe a little bit lower overall.......

Guys if you wants remove the stock I/C , you can get the braquet from www.essentialspeed.com . It make one because its FMIC kit need to remove the stock I/C . It's around 65$CAD shipped

David MPS...that's good to know, thanks (although it does seem a bit steep for a bracket?)
