hi, ive been following along this is one of my first posts, but i was wondering, if i could get a whole kit installed, lets say not anything outragous, but like 4, 5, 6 psi, how exactly could i make sure the engine will run smoothly? computer wise, could a tuner at a local speed shop upgrade my stock ecu to get 5 or 6 psi more of air/fuel? I mean how would a good shop, doing a custom job on a customer with a budget, get the computer to run right? any input or information would be awesome, i have many relatives all work in the automotive industry and i could possibly get them to help do a custom turbo with me, so im interested. thanks

I dont think anyone has really even tried cracking the Mazda 3 ecu... but I could be wrong... if its as stubborn as the protege ecu then it might take some time....

There are really two options. One is to replace the stock ECU, with something like a 'Link' ECU. This is used in the Miata market on higher end turbo and supercharger solutions.

The other option is a helper box that plugs in between the engine and the ECU. Basically, it takes the orders from the ECU for the engine, combines it with the actual boost being generated by the turbo/supercharger, and translates it into new orders for the engine. Jackson Racings 'Powercard' is a good example of this.

I have NO idea how hard either one is to do though...

No as of right no one can tune it. A high price standalone is the only way right now. You might want to check out SCT (SuperChipsTuning) I know they have flashed a Focus 2.3L.
