Does any one know how to set up the fog ligths on with out having to turn your head lights on?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Its my first thread.

i wouldnt suggest either of these. id say the best way to do this is to run a seperate wire from each fog to its power source and a switch in your cabin. whatevers clever. my way takes a lot longer and you have to remove the bumper! enjoy! lol.

I think Element has done it for the HIDs, so we need to bully it out of him how he did it.

I asked rotus8 for a way to pair the fogs with the HB, but his Idea crashed the system.
We think the PCB board under the glovebox (how many gloves can fit in there? ) has alot of control over the fogs, safety thing with laws regarding how many lamps can be on

its likely the stalk talks to the board, and the board oks a solenoid.

If we could find the stalk wire before it gets to the board, then you could get control of the fogs (or anything) with the stock switch.

nice sig line
My ex has the 08 rolla, have you done anything with the sound?

The stock fog wiring is so undersized it's probably better to just run a new harness with it's own relay and switch. Then you could run higher wattage bulbs without roasting the stock wiring (and instead only possibly roast the housing). You can also wire the stock fog wiring to actuate the relay so that they come on when the car commands them on too if you wanted to. Put a diode in the wire so that there's no power feedback into the stock fog light wiring (not sure if it would matter or hurt anything, but a diode is so cheap... why not?).

Nah the corolla is as stock as can be. Big mod of BBS passat wheels and snow tires for the winter is coming this weekend... haha.

because if you blow the diode you need to cut it out and re solder another one in. but if thats not a big deal to anyone assuming the diode blows...just make sure you buy the right size diode for the current and thatll work great. im one to hide all my wiring and easy access from the fog light to a relay and switch with tucked wiring in the dash....not easy to get to and fix. my demon eyes have a switch built into the center console under the ebrake so i would have to pull apart the console to replace a diode for those (just an example.)

ALLCON:
Im still researching, but there may be a way to do this without cutting the harness or running wires and s*** like that. Plenty of FoMoCo vehicles, including later model Focus unless Im much mistaken, can run the fogs without the heads being on. I know sure a shooting that the mustangs can, along with all of the SUVs. I think it can be done by swapping the relay, or modifying the relay to fit our boxes somehow. I have to take the car back to the shop in a few days (turbo seals going? Its blowing oil out the tail pipe...) and I'll hit the Ford dealership across the street and grab a few assorted relays, see what I can beat in with a hammer and make work.

Excellent -- I appreciate your initiative; thank you.

Me too.

Don`t forget, start with the small ballpeen hammer; don`t use the sledge unless it`s really stubborn.

I have the factory HID's and i settled for a similar version of jam_asian85's in that other thread. I didnt like the idea of the fogs being on all the time and wanted some control though. I picked up a 12v relay from radio shack and put it in between the connections in the engine bay fuse box. I did have to run a wire from the glove box fuse box (labeled Illumination) to trigger the relay to turn the lights on. I also put a switch on that illumination wire so even with the parking lights on I can still turn them off. I have been running this for about a year, no issues.

not sure if you could take a pic of the engine bay relay setup? this is great...

When you hit the switch for the fogs, somewhere in that car, a wire goes hot, or a relay flips, something happens. The question is, does nothing at all happen without the headlights on, or does something happen and the addition of the headlights then causes the circuit to close on the foglight relay? If it is the first, then someone with a wiring diagram, a test probe, and plenty of spare time needs to figure out what change occurs. If we know that, then we can work out an add-on harness to give complete control over the fogs through the factory switch.

One the Focus it was just a small piece of wire to basically jump the relay in the fuse box and have them on when the switch was on. I used to have an 03 and that is all it took.

I made up a diagram of what I did. I hope this helps. I borrowed the pictures from jam_asian85's post. Hope you dont mind :)

so instead of using the aftermarket switch you could attach that relay wire to the factory switch assuming you can find it in the handle with the lights. awesome
