flashed?

sorry for sounding like such a noob at this but what does it mean when you're flashed? and are blow off valves a smart idea for the MSP?

Flashed means that you have taken your Speed into the dealer so they could reset or "flash" the ECU. The original programing was basically causing the Speed to run way rich at certain RPMs, causing hesitation between 3K &35K. The flash reprograms the ECU helping to deal with this and makes the car much more drivable. However, if your Speed is new and your dealer didn't suck you might already have it done.

As for BOVs, I think the consensus is pretty much no, unless you recirc them. The Speeds MAF can not deal with the sudden loss of air when a BOV vents to the atmosphere and this can cause stalling at low RPMs and from what I hear a real nightmare to drive. However, this is not to say that you can't run an aftermarket BOV. But for drivability sake most of us agree it should be recirced. I know HKS and Greddy both have recirc kits for there more popular BOVs. I am pretty sure that Turbo XS has one too. Also, there are some daring individuals who have learned how to drive vented to the atmosphere without killing it.

Hope that helps.

thank you now i understand what flashed is...i took my car into service and told them it had a bit of turbolag and when i picked it up he said they reprogrammed or reset the ECU. Thank you that helped alot

Wow, a dealership with their s*** together? (Picks jaw up off floor) Sorry not used to that down here.

is there a gain in horse power from the reflash. Becuz from some people i hear it gives u an extra 15hp, from others no increase in hp at all. Well on Club RSX they were talking about the msp and some people said that will the reflash the msp got 15hp more. They could be wrong, just seeing what the real truth is.

some said they did and some say they didnt. but i believe someone dyno'd it to show an increase, i just cant remember who. read the sticky thread for more info on the flash, its at the top of this section.
