Flash Software in Mazda 3 Radio

I have been researching this for months, let me fill you in..

I have been researching about unlocking the DIS on my 2008.5 Mazda 3 S-Touring. From what i've read, it basically wont work. Ive tried all of the button combos, including disconnecting the battery.

After researching some more, i found that it came down to the software in the radio.
So basically, im curious if there are any ways to flash the radio software to the one that includes the trip computer already in it, then i can unlock it using the frequently mentioned button combos.

You're gonna have to find out and tell us. Seems like an awful lot of work just to get the DIS which isn't even all that useful TBH.

You're probably better off swapping out your radio for an '07 or '08 that can be unlocked with just a few button presses.

Its been a thought in the back of my mind... Its prob worth it to save the headache. Is it true, from your experience, that it is impossible to unlock the DIS in 2008.5 mazda 3's?

No experience in trying as my '08 MS3 GT came with it but from browsing threads on here and elsewhere it seems like no one has been able to figure this out. There are quite a few threads like yours asking how to "unlock" the DIS in '08.5 and '09s but I have yet to come across a workaround.

are you sure that you have tried them all? How long did it take? I know that the radio has more than 6 buttons but imagine that at only 6 buttons there are more than 59,000 possible options.

But seriously, I think that you would just be better off buying a gt or finding an older radio.

The harness plug pinout changed for the '08.5 refresh. 32 pin in the older ones, 30 pin in the newer, so a swap with an older one wouldn't work.

Oh man, that could possibly take FOREVER. Im sure its doable... just a question of how.

I read on another forum that an owner of an 08.5 3, with single CD said he got it to work. Wasnt sure how, and never answered my PM.

I posted this in the original "how-to" sticky, but its buried like 200 posts deep...

I have an early '08 S Sport with the 6 disc non MP3 capable deck. The DIS unlock did not work. And not for any lack of desperate trying. So I bought an '07 single CD deck of EBAY for under $50. I plugged it in and the DIS trick worked, but now I was stuck with a single CD deck.
So I thought, what if...I swapped the 07 faceplate onto my 08 6 disk (with the "set" button instead of the ":00")...and what do you know, it worked.

I'm not sure if this is going to make sense, but you probably just need to ask the dealer to do an update to allow the feature? You may have to pay for it, but its worth a shot. Also, this might be a dumb question, but..., my girlfriend just bought an '05 3 GT, and I thought it was suppose to have the 6 disc but seems like it only has the single disc. Well, I might know why, and if not, then tell me if its possible. I think someone may have swapped the radio/displays out. The reason I say this, is because by looking at the display it shows all the functions for the trip, and ambient air temp etc... the driver convenience package that I thought was only offered in 2006? Did the older year radios still have all those in the display? or do you think someone did steal the 6 disc for their single disc? Also, if they did.. and I am sure this is going to be a "not possible" but could you do an unlock to get the ambient air and trip computer parts of the display to work? Or does it only work on the '06 and newer because they have the necessary software and outside temp sensor? Let me know... I really wanted her to get the '06 instead of '05.... I also wanted leather, but she opted to get cloth Thanks.
