Fixed my clunking

My wife's car has had the "clunk" for a while now. I crawled underneath it and visually inspected everything and it all looked good. I started pounding the sway bar with the palm of my hand and could kind of hear it. I wasn't sure that was it but decided to take a chance and order new bushings from Mazda. MZBN7H-28-156E was the part number. $18.40 each. No more clunk!

I've been lurking on these forums for a while but this is my first post so sorry if everyone already knows this info.

I thought about calling Mazda corporate and complaining because even though the car is out of warranty now (61,000 miles) the bushings were replaced under warranty once or twice.

When I took the old ones out I was a bit shocked at the hack job Mazda had installed. The bushings were too small so they tried to shim them with what looked to be a slice of the old bushing.

Didn't take very long to swap them. I had a friend help me tug on the sway bar to get it back into place to line the bolt holes up. Speaking of which, does anyone know if the elongated hole on the bracket goes on the top or the bottom? I pulled both of them off not realizing that one was circular and one was elongated. Either way the noise is gone. I have a per rpm noise now. I think it's a rear tire but not sure. I'll be replacing those soon. I think I'm going to try the Cooper ZEON ZPT tires. I've never used them but I had a set of Cooper tires on one of my former vehicles and I really liked them.
