My new "True Red" 3 MPS has 600km and 1.5 weeks on it now and i thought i would give you some thoughts on first impressions. It has not been driven to the limit yet and no faster than 140 kmh (90 MPH).
In no particular order:
* It pulls really hard in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. This car is seriously fast when you are on the move. From 3000 RPM, you fell the torque pull you along.
* At this early stage it is hard to launch the car in 1st gear. I am loath to try hard at the moment but i suspect it will be beaten easily in the first 100m of any standings start.
* Second also feels a little restricted. Motoring writers have talked about torque limiting in first two gears and after grabbing 3rd, you do feel a noticable speed difference.
* The 280 kmh speedo is hard to read in day to day situations. It is not graduated and you spend all of your time in first 1/4 of dial.
* Steering is quite direct with a good feel under normal conditions but you want two hands on the wheel and full attention if you press the loud pedal on anything but a straight line.
* I have trams in my home town (same as ones in seattle and similar to cable cars in San francisco) and it "tramlines" really easily when crossing the tacks, travelling in the same direction. If you have grooves on your local roads, it may grab them.
* At idle, the exhaust note is very Subaru WRX. it looses this quickly and then becomes non-descript at 2000+ RPM.
* Vehicle is generally quiet to ride in and family friendly.
* No early rattles and feels solid but bose stereo does not have much punch.
* Front seats are very comfortable for my 90KG 6ft 3" frame.
* Pedals are a little high for my liking but am getting used to it. Pedal is very light.
* The car has a tough presense when parked on the street but it does not draw a lot of stares from the general public.
* Road bumps do not unsettle the car but it does not like speed humps.
* You will without doubt get speeding fines in the first month of ownership, it is deceptively quick.
You do have to buy one!!!!
