Allllllright, today was our third day of install-and we finally have it running great at 6 pounds at about 85psi. We still need to do some re-routing for perminant use and we have to hook up my electronic gauges, but other than that were good to go!!!
A few things about the install:
-We ran into more than a few kinks. Some were just bad luck and others were related to the kit or small/tight fits. The intercooler was sure a b**** to get to fit between the bumper and the radiator and I didn't see anywhere in the instructions where it mentioned that in order to even put the bumper back on you had to cut a bunch of the inside bumper off (the stuff you can't see).
-A few of the hoses were either faulty or needed to be longer and I had to go out and buy replacements at checker. All in all I spent about 100$ bucks on replacement parts (hardware/tubes).
-The instructions were pretty vague on many things-and took a lot of phonecalls to try and figure out. A drawn model of each step would have been a good idea-the pictures were ok but only from that angle. A diagram would been good. It was more like the directions told you what to do, just not how to do it so much. Actually this board was a lot of help to us.
-On the bad luck side of things we had a stud break off on the pipe side of the Cat. It was a clean cut but was about 2 threads below the surface. We REALLY didn't want to cause anymore harm to those threads and cause us to buy a new Cat so we took it to a machine shop. The old fellow there said he could "try" to get it out with his welding technique but didn't want to cause any harm to the Cat since it is ALSO steel- so he gave us over to another company that uses lasers and electronic waves to separate hardware and god knows what else. It was VERY cool to see this done. It took them 30 minutes and they had that stud piece out of there perfect and clean-better yet it only cost 40$...Better than buying a new cat. That took care of the exhaust leaks.
-Also onthe bad luck side of things we ran into the same problem as 1stMP3inNH.. We were loosing all boost and it would stall. We had a clamp on too high on one of the IC pipes--easily fixed.
But I must say overall I am very happy. The setup looks killer and almost factory and the system seems to work very efficient and sounds BADASS!!!!! I'm looking forward o my exhaust getting here Wednesday-should add about 7-10 HP per FM's dyno tests.
For anyone looking for an aftermarket BOV for this kit get the Flyin' Miata one!! It fits perfect and goes on without ANY mods, plus the sounds is beyond cool.
I'll post more tomorrow after we get through final tuning!
