Any members own pugs? (I already did a search and found one thread about it but had only 8 posts and it was from last year) I am buying a male pug for my g/f for Christmas and wanted to know if they are difficult to house train. I know I am going to get all the facts about them when I purchase it but just wanted to know from members, especially any new, if they had any difficulties with them or have friends with them. We played with a female and she actually bit me and she drew blood. It sucked. They have like vampire teeth. Thanks, any feedback would be awesome from you guys.
Peace, Santos

I have a female and she is by far the sweetest dog I have ever had. She loves people and is very freindly. She loves to play and is a good all around dog. Really hyper for half the day when me and my g/f get home but mellow and cuddly when you want her to be. She learned to go outside and do her business rather quik and wasnt hard at all

she has gotten along with everydog we have had her around. She even plays around with my ferret with no problems

Thanks, A.V.MSP. I heard females are meaner than the males when it comes to this breed. My brother has a ferret so I guess he will have a playing partner now. Any other problems with them that I should know about?

From what I have heard some get a breathing problem cuz there nose is smashed in and they have to open the nasal passage surgically. Also he might hyperventilate so dont freak out if he does just try your best to calm him down, it only lasts a few min. Depending on how wrinkled his nose part is you may want to make sure in between the wrinkles stays clean. No major problems that I have heard of though.

Also cuz their eyes are so big they are gonna water a lot to wash all the s*** out, so just wipe their eyes if you see gunk

there so ugly there cute. I read they were bread to protect the japanese emperors gold and s***, can you beleive that!?

schiesskopf5 has one its an annoying little s***

now my bestfriend has one and hes a straight pimp. doesn't bark doesn't piss on random things just straight chills. he used to sit in the drivers seat of the vr-4 when we were working on it...

My best friend and his wife have a 10month old male. He's super hyper when company comes over, but once he realizes who they are and what not he calms down. And i dont know if it just cause they're lazy and havent tried training him outside but he s**** where ever he sees fit, usually under the dinner table.

I gotta agree with brealmp3, they're ugly as sin but u cant help but like it. Esp my buddies Pug. When you look straight at him and say his name, which is Domi, his eyes go sideways, its the oddest damn thing ive ever seen. I dont know if its common for Pugs to have they're eyes look like they're lookin off the side of their head or not. Its hilarious though.

For Christ sake, if you're gonna get a dog, get a dog! What the hell is that thing anyway? A Pug? That doesn't even sound like a dog. Sounds more like something I dropped in the toilet last night.
How about a "Pit Bull" or "Doberman" or "Mastif" or "American Bull Dog". (rockon)

Nothing says "I love you" like giving a dog that can rip your face off.

I have a male pug. He was a gift from my fiance when i returned from Iraq. I feel very blessed to have him. He is very playful and very funny. I swear he could be a human, just the way he acts, its halarious. They are very easy to train. I've never sent him to school, but i've been able to teach him the basics. I think pugs are great house dogs. He loves babys. The first time he ever meet one, he was very gentle towards the baby. Thumbs up from me for a pug. Here are a couple pix of him. On the first pic that is actually how he sleeps!

any dog is easy to train if you start early enough. and you start with easy stuff for short periods of time

Sorry about your little penis and the need for a big dog. (lol)

I really don't understand the fascination with these dogs. Like some of the other members have already said pro5monkey why would I buy a dog like this for my girlfriend who is already in love with pugs? These dogs kill people. I don't see any advantages on having these type of dogs especially if you have a lot of smaller cousins such as myself and my g/f. Why even risk it. And I don't care if you have these dogs trained or not. The odds of these dogs losing control in just a few minutes is very high and all it really takes for any of these dogs to rip the skin right off of your face is a couple of seconds. Look, i know you are trying to be funny or something but I have already made my decision. I just wanted some feedback from members about any problems or concerns in the long run for the 'pug' type.

i am sorry but those dogs are ugly. get a dog that has a purpose.

all dogs have "purpose" The purpose of this dog is to be a companion for my significant other. Something that is going to make her happy and something that she can remember me by when I am not there.

Nothing says "I love you" like giving a dog that can rip your face off.
Yeah, that is all I need. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something like that was to happen. Amazing that people would even recommend it. (hand)

Thanks for the input members. Now I can ask questions on everything you have mentioned at the pet store.

Santos

I'm afraid I don't have much personal experience with the 'toy' breeds -- I tend to like the larger, Northern-ish breeds like Huskies and Malamutes and German Shepherds and so on -- but a friend of mine has two Boston Terriers. I don't know how close they are to the Pug breed as far as mentality and habits are concerned, but I can tell you his two dogs -- the older one female, and the younger one male -- are both total sweethearts. The female is a bit more prone to getting worked up over the male, but they're still excellent dogs -- very well-trained, easy to train, and responsive.

My best advice is to make sure you buy a puppy from a breeder with a GOOD reputation. No puppy mills! And if you buy one from a pet store, PLEASE ask the employees where they got the puppies from and do a little research into said breeder. You have NO idea how many of the pups in pet stores come from puppy mills, or just generally bad breeders -- and it can mean an inbred pup, or just a pup from not-so-great parents. Take the time to do some background checking, and it'll be worth it for your g/f over the next 15 years!

Good luck! :)
