Fastest FWD?

actually yhe drivetrain is nothing special in the c series vettes, its only something worth the money in z06s and the new zr1. c series are really nothing special at all seeing as you see more vettes on the road than camrys

(rofl) amusing.... Im only sorry I contributed to this thread going to hell....

you did actually by coming on to a mazda forum and bragging about how much better your vette is than the speed3

Oh give it up- I HAVE A MS3 and my bragging was in jest to your lame ass post about what do you expect its a chevy.... quit picking a fight already - I didnt join this forum yesterday

You know, the roads are FULL of all different kinds of cars, and the FASTEST isn't always the "best" for a particular person. Kudos to Chevy for the performance of the new cobalt SS which is just a scorcher on the track. More power to them. The corvette is a really well put together performance car as well.

Drive whatever is the "right" car for you "right" now.
That's my motto. And, my speed3 is doing just fine in that role.

if you actually drive the new vette you will understand what he is saying. I have and it was the most fun I have had in a long long time. it competes with the best the rest of the world has to offer. the ms3 is great and all, but go for a drive in the new vette and you will have a blast and understand where he is coming from.

we should put this thread back on track as vettes and ms3 is apples and oranges.

lol, vettes vs. ms3?? I love this thread.

Here is a new one for everyone, WTH happened to SRT4, seriously, are they really that stupid coming out with a caliber srt4? High center of gravity FTL.

you know what the shittiest part about the new srt4 is?...that chrysler had an AWD platform for the caliber, just not for the srt4.

i think they could have had a sporting chance running along with the evo and sti if they utilized the AWD for their srt4. not only that, but the price of the srt4 starts at $25k...that's almost $2k more than an ms3 gt (no nav) but still a whole lot less than the evo or sti.

those srt4 owners have to be pissed off at that

There are 2 factors going on here.

1. Corporate Chrysler wanted a tall, crossover looking small car to be "different" on the lowend of the market, hence the elimination of the neon platform and creation of "caliber" which also btw shares its platform with jeep as well.

2. The all wheel drive caliber drivetrain is weak and would never withstand the power dished out by the srt4 engine.

strong AWD transmissions cost big bucks. plus just think of all the warranty claims they would have to deal with when their target audience starts droppping the clutch at 5KRPM all day long day after day. the dealers would love it as they would clean up with labor charges to coporate office, the corporation would lose alot of $ money.

Good Day
My 08 still rides smooth, has now run some 13.4 at 106 with new tires (MSCB, MSCAI)and no rattles and 32 MPG HWY , has 27K miles on it and still havent been beat by a HHR SS, Cobalt SS, Audie S, Accura TLR, BMW M3., number of WRX's, 2 STI's 2 good lookin EVO's but a M5 is another issue, LOL Doesn't burn a drop of oil (Mobil1), checked brakes at 26K when I put new tires on and they wern't used 20%. Cool mornings in WI with the Yoko Avid W4s still is a Thrill at 160! I don't have anything to be embarrassed about nor brag about, JUST ENJOY!!

higher top speed doesnt matter unless you are racing. it is all about 0-60 and whos the fastest...

If you're not racing, I think 40-80 is more important that 0-60 ;)

My vote goes to the new Cobalt SS coupe for fastest FWD...in the U.S.

in real world driving i use most of the hp from the ms3 to do high speed merging onto I-95 or route 1. and since i don't race or go to the track gunning it from 0mph is just useless.

i agree that the cobalt ss/tc is the fastest fwd right now, but i think the old srt4 neon had 0-60 times of like 5.1 seconds or something. even though they were only like 225 or 230hp they weighed nothing and only needed 2nd gear to get to 60 (i think).

It all depends on whos driving, road, tire condition etc. The Cobalt is a hopped up rental car just like the srt4's are. The Speed3 is a much nicer car on the inside then either one of them. But the other 2 are considered sedans, and not hatchbacks, so it all depends on what you preferences are. My brother-in-law has an srt4, and it is fun to drive, but gets uncomfortable real quick, and is very cheesey on the inside. Never driven a cobalt, but have seen the interior, and was not impressed, and it has the worlds (my opinion) worst spoiler.
