the car you see pictured here is the fastest car 'ever'. Period. The end! How fast? 763.035mph
Horsepower: 100,000 (uh huh!)
Thrust SSC (Super Sonic Car)
The first ever supersonic World Land Speed Record of 763.035mph was set on 15th October 1997 by Andy Green in ThrustSSC, on the Black Rock Desert, Nevada. The speed of sound was exceeded on land by Andy Green and ThrustSSC for the first time in history on 13th October 1997.
(What you see here is the SSC breaking the sound barrier - notice the shock wave on the desert floor)
Will that record ever be broken? Hopefully!! Craig Breedlove and his "Spirit of America" has the best shot.
Craig Breedlove was the first man that exceeded: 400mph (original Spirit of America), 500mph, and 600mph (Spirit of America Sonic 1 - 1965). He thinks the 'Spirit of America' can break 800mph. He is still gathering money for his next attempt. In 1997, he was camped out with his team along with Richard Nobel's SSC team, as they were going to do battle at the Black Rock desert. As we all know now; the battle was won by the Thrust SSC. Breedlove's team experienced different problems with the car. At one point the engine injested a small rock, and had to return to California for repairs.
Like Craig Breedlove; I also want the Ultimate Land Speed Record Title returning to the United States.
