Fast E/T's

Im going to track thursday. Bone stock ms3. I have a very important question for you guys. Do you finish in 4th gear or 5th? I know power drops off liek a rock around 5800rmp which is right around 90mph in 4th gear. So what do u guys do...just ride out 4th and loose power, or loose time shift to 5th and make more power for the last 20 feet lol

hope we don't have to shift to 5th gear

I've not run the MS3 yet, but in my experience with other cars I've had, if you can hold a lower gear thru the traps you'll typically ET quicker, but MPH less than if you'd shifted up to the next gear.

Like to hear what gear those who have run their MS3's finish in also

I was well into 5th gear, at the end of the track a shift doesn't hurt you nearly as much as the first 330ft.
Your trap speed is the average speed of the last 66ft.

Ok howmuch do u weigh my friend and howmuch fuel did u have in the car thats the 20k question.I mean i weigh 215lbs and with 3/4 in the tank i don`t think i`m going to get any quicker than 14.5 hehehehe(dunno)

You can`t run under 14 with a stock MS3 no way jose, the 335i barely does it in 14,you telling me MS3 is faster than a BMW 335i.BS or an STI for that matter.

I havent taken it to the track (live in Cali, California sppedway is the only 1/4 mile around here), but I do check best acceleration on a g-tech , I know it's not the same and when I take it to the track I can match the meter to the results of the track , my question is this :....whats everyone launching at , shifting at...I've tried from 1500 to 3k launch and 5500 to 6000 rpm shifts and between traction and staying on boost the car is pretty hard to get consistent...any thoughts?

i was wondering the same thing. what are the best combinations for those of you running between 13.9 and 14.2?

My MS3 is still bone stock i just drop my TP to 25 PSI and launch at 3500 cuz the max torque is like 2800-3000 right so i figured that by the time the clutch grabs and you ease in the gas your realy launching at about 2900 RPM and i shift just after 6000 with out lifting out of the gas ran again tonight a 9.2 and a 9.4

Well here are my slips in order: Embarassing as i had alot of driver error

9.099 @ 79.05
11.847
14.288 @ 98.81 MISSED MOTHER FUCKEN 5TH

Night ends. Im not sure if my last run was a 13.999999 but who knows.
The car is a b**** to shift right, it bogs btwn shifts or so it seems, and im not use to it enough to be able to powershift it. All run were done with traction control off. There's no wheel hop but too much engine movment btw shifts, it makes it hard to find a gear quick, so i was shifting rather slow. BTW this is a ms3 with a airbox mod, so basically bone stock

to get back to the point....I ve done a 14.71 @98.3 and 14.62 @ 99.6......by the way this is the first car I own with a six speed and I go thru the traps in 4th...(old habit).....did some of the math and 5th at 100mph should be around 5000rpms so I will be trying to remember there is another gear or two.
my 60 ft times blow....2.406 on both runs.....completely stock....any advice on launching??...I have tried from 1000 to 3500....most of the time in between 2500 and 3000 . (dont ask for slips....wouldn't have a clue on how to put them here)....musclecar guy syndrome I guess....new technology scares me. But at least I have a baseline and will be checking progress as I modify....anyone know if the tranny and axles in this thing can take drag radials? , seems to be perhaps the weak link in the chain.

My tip on launching is to try to keep the car at max torque through out the launch and ease out the clutch just fast enough to break the tires loose but not spin them

You have to spin tires. If you try to launch w/o spinning you're gona bog the launch (much worse). I already tried and believe me it don't work. The best way for me is to drop the clutch at 3k rpm, you'll get some wheel spin but it will move out the line pretty fast.

Yeah i see what your saying but if you try to slip the clutch insted of the tires that way you wont get the bog or loss of traction how do you think super bikes get of the line.

You're right about slipping the clutch. But every time I launch at 3k I get some wheel spin, nothing crazy, and it launch pretty good.
It may be just me, but I'm not a fan of clutch slip.

I hit 15.3 @98~something after I hopped the front so bad I thought I broke something (probably that damn trans mount bolt we all worried about), then missed 2nd about three times in frustration, then got third, fourth, and coasted the rest because I knew I screwed up bad.

I also ran a 14.8 @ 99~ something...after I forgot to turn off the DSC, bogged down while spinning the tires, then caught the dsc again in 2nd, then hauled ass the rest of the way.

The car has potential if you don't drive like me.

BTW, this was pre-engine falling out, so I hope for an improved run on my repaired, properly bolted-down vehicle. I'm hitting the track as soon as the 100+ degree temps drop to a manageable 90+ (all at night)
