Falango's CG work (56K probably not)

this is amazing! and this is the kind of stuff that i wanted to do when i went to college!

keep the pics on coming!

Thanks guys. The Peterbilt is the best work I've done so far. I'll upload some renders of a human head texture I did over the last few weeks. Was tough to do, since we had to paint it from scratch, no picture cut and paste allowed. Had alot of fun doing it though.

I may go back and retexture the Peterbilt and get more realism out of it, we'll see. I do want to model and texture a trailer to go with it though. I may do that over the next two weeks.

I started blocking out the car a on Friday, following the blueprints I have of Petter Solberg's car (in the first image above). I ended up scrapping that and starting over with different blueprints, after realizing his WRC car is very different from the main reference I wanted to use. The body of Ken Block's and Travis Pastrana's cars are that of a regular STi, which is what I was aiming for. Restarted the blocking with new blueprints, and it's coming along well. Hood, front bumper, fender, doors, rockers, and quarterpanel are blocked in very rough. Should have the rest of the exterior blocked in tomorrow and I'll post up some shots of it.

Here's a quick start to blocking out the car, just trying to get the proportions right.

Time for a quick update!!

Got a low poly verison of the car blocked out, and started working on high poly versions of each exterior piece. Front end is almost done, just starting the fender now, and then the headlight will be tomorrow. Headlight might take a bit of time........

You should do a tanker and have the reflection of the landscape. That would look sweet.

I like that idea, I might do that!!!

Been a while since I've updated, so here we go!! Getting close to finishing the bodywork on the car. Haven't had much time in my first 2 weeks back at school to work on this, but I have a slow week coming up, so I'm hoping to get the windows and roof done!! There's a few small bumps on the trunk and bumper I need to work out. Otherwise, here we go!

sweet thanks!, i'll try messing around with it and see if i can come up with something!

is it hard to learn without an instructor?

It's tough to get started. There's just so many tools in it that do so many things. Once you learn the basics, it gets much easier. The tough part is knowing what each of the key tools does, and when to use them. Browse around online for some ebooks and that will help you quite a bit. I have heard that Maya is easy to learn compared to other 3D software though. I've been at it for about 16 months now, and am pretty confident I can build whatever I can imagine.

Got a few more pieces done. For the bodywork, just have to do the rear window, windshield, wipers, and the cowling under the wipers. After that, wheels, brakes, suspension, and the exterior is done!! I need to smooth out the exterior mirror a bit. It doesn't give perfect reflections.

Another update!! Body is finally done. Just have to fix few things up, line the wheel wells, add the rear suspension and brakes, and then it's on to the interior!

Poly count is ridiculously high, lol.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the coilovers are rigged for animation too. I decided to rig them up so I could pose the car easier for the action renders. All I need to do is move one controller and it extend/contract the suspension thus moving the wheel as well. I'll use this if I plan to animate it too.

I want to model my car in the future. This project should be finished by mid June. I am building an environment along with it. I had a few ideas for my next big project, possibly building a custom off-road truck. I may do a low-poly Protege at the same time, we'll see what happens!

I've also thought about doing something like the next Mazda 3. Sort of take styling cues from the 2 generations, and other Mazdas, and see what sort of thing I can come up with. Upcoming Mazda concepts would probably be even better to go off of!

Been a while since I've updated this, so here we go!

Exterior of the STi is 100% finished now. This includes the exhaust, FMIC, radiator, badging, and a basic undercarriage. On the inside, the basic shell is in, as well as the floor and center console. Seats are done, same for the rollcage, and belts. Next up is the door panels, dash, and securing the spare tire that sits behind the seats. Really hoping to get this model done within the next 3 weeks or so so I can start texturing it. The new Fiesta that Ken Block is going to be driving in Rally America is going to be a VERY HEAVY influence on the texture I do for this.

Once I get home, I'll post up some lighting tests I did about a month ago. I also have a new idea for presenting the STi once it's finished. Studio style photoshoot is what I have in mind. Environment for that should be ready in a week or so.
