I've been in school now for a year at The Art Institute of Vancouver for 3D Modeling for Animation and Games. Best decision I've made in my life. It's been tons of fun, homework is fun, I look forward to going to school! Got one year to go, and then I'm set loose. Hoping to get into a video game studio when I'm all finished, and there are just tons to choose from around here. For now, thought I'd show off some work I've done so far. Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated, both positive and negative............as long as it's constructive please! Most of the images are hosted in higher res, so right click any image, go to properties, and copy and paste the url to see if there is a higher res available.

Here's a quick render I have of a Colt I modeled for a class. Only a few hours in this, so it's still a WIP. I'll finish it off later with textures.

About 5 months ago, I did this character. First character I had done, and I was pleased with the result. It's not something I want to do when I'm done, but I do still have fun with them from time to time.

<img src="http://www.msprotege.com/members/Falango/Ai/modelsheet2.jpg" width="800">

A bust of a cartoony character I did in that same class. Had more fun with this one. At some point I will finish the model and texture it as well. Thinking of a realistic texture on it to give it the idea of a hyper-realistic person.

A few months into the program, I realized environments and prop modeling is what I loved to do. I can sit for hours on end modeling and playing with these kinds of things, and I feel it's my best work by far. Here is the first complete building I did. The idea was to model a building, and texture it as if it were abandoned, rundown, etc. Was really pleased with the result.

<img src="http://www.msprotege.com/members/Falango/Ai/building1.jpg" width="800">

Here is the second building I did for that class. Not as pleased with the texture on this one because I had less than half the time to texture it. I may redo it in the future.

Our final for this class was to use other classmates' buildings they made, and build an environment. This was a thrill to put together. I spent many hours on the composition, the placement, the camera position, building more props, texturing, everything. Some of the buildings in the midground aren't made by me, and I can't take credit for about 50% of the props in the scene either. Full res on this is 1920x1080.

Here are some quick screencaps of another model I am working on. I'm challenging myself with a high detail high rise. Based off of whatever is in my head, the goal is an estimated 40 story office/condo tower, mid/high class style, with a modern architectural flare to it. Lots of glass, lots of concrete, some ornate and organic elements to it as well. Second image gives the sense of human scale. Third gives the idea of the size, full scale blocked out.

Some quick renders of some lighting assignments I had. Lighting is something alot of people underestimate. These 2 scenes took no more than about half an hour each, from start to final render. I think these help show the importance of lighting, and obviously not meant to show off the models!!! (which I did not make)

Over my last 2 week break, I started to put something together for my portfolio. Architectural modeling is something else I'm very interested in doing. I came up with a simple concept for a small cottage style house, and started building it. This is still a WIP, and will be for a while. When completed, it will be modeled inside and out, fully furnished, in a scene. Lots of work to do on this. This is a quick clay render of the exterior of the house 100% complete. I'm in the process of texturing the exterior now.

This is something I've been working on for about a week now. It's a Peterbilt 359 semi truck. You may recognize it as the same model as Optimus Prime from Transformers. I have been limited to 20000 polys on this, so I haven't been able to go into as much detail as I'd like. Model is about 80% complete in these clay renders. I have refined multiple parts already, and have a basic interior to finish as well. The model will be complete within a week. After that, it will be textured. Texture will be complete in about 3 weeks time. The aim of this one is a photorealistic model and texture.

I am planning on doing my car in the future. I actually have 2 other cars in progress right now. First one is an S2000, the body is just about done. Second is an E46 3 series, barely even started. I may model a trailer for the Peterbilt as well, pending how much time I have.

I've also got blueprints for piles of cars that I'd like to do in the future. Starting next week, I will be doing another car, but a non-existant one. Working on concepts this weekend.

Haha, me too! Even though the model isn't complete, I've been playing around with the Mental Ray Car paint shaders, and they are pretty decent. I've tried a few off of Highend3D.com as well that have alot of adjustability.

You've got some talent, and it looks like you enjoy doing it. Keep up the good work (2thumbs)

I love doing it, I can say I love school. I can sit for hours on end working on this stuff without it getting tedious or anything. It's too much fun for me.

nice work.

i took the nerdier version of those classes (graphics and animation programming, basically understanding how the programs you use to make that stuff work as well as some GPU programming for use in real time rendering) and those were still my favorite classes in school. i needed no sort of artistic skill because the theory behind everything was what was being taught but still fun to build things then be able to fly around them and see how changing different things in the environment interact with what you built

Quick little update. The truck model is done, just prepping it for textures now. Texture will be finished by the end of mext week.

Next model is a car concept I quickly came up with one night. The idea is a supercar from the 30s or 40s, as if it were conceptualized and made today. Big fenders, big soft curves, super long hood. Time pending, I may model a big V16 under the hood. A basic interior will be done with this model as well. I'm still up in the air on alot of things with this car. Thinking about dumping the exhaust in front of the rear wheels, like Vipers, or side dump behind the wheel, or dual center exit, not sure. Ideas?? Wheels will be the last thing made for this, so that I can play with different styles and match them with the car.

Here's a few renders of a texture job I did on this gun. I was pleased with it based on the time I was given, but wish I had a bit more. Texture was made from scratch, no photos used aside from looking at them for reference.

Been a bit since I've updated, been really busy with school, mainly texture work, but here's some new stuff!

The Peterbilt truck is complete!! 35 hour of texturing in 5 days last week, so some of the stuff is a bit rough around the edges, but I am very happy with the result. All the textures are custom painted, no copy and pasting photos here. Here's my final render with a desert added in via Photoshop.

<img src="http://www.msprotege.com/members/Falango/359/desert_road.jpg" width="800">

Here is a batch of renders for a concept car I came up with a few weeks back. I sketched out the basic shape, and sort of went from there. Took a few trials to get the body shape the way I wanted. The interior is modeled as well, very basic though. Overall, fairly satisfied with the result. This may get textured in the future.

Also just finished my first digital painting of The Incredibly Hulk following a certain artists' style (Alex Ross). Tough to do, and I didn't quite hit the style, but I was still happy with the result. Don't have anything uploaded yet, but will soon! Next up is one I'm really looking forward to doing. An interior shot of The Louvre following the style of Craig Mullins (aka. Goodbrush). For those interested, google him and you will be absolutely amazed. He has done concept art (traditionally and digital) for tons of movies, games, shows, etc, including various James Bond films, Fallout 3, Final Fantasy, Halo 2 and 3, etc.

Decided to get started on what will be my demo reel for when I grad in 9 months. I want to put some real good work together for this, so I'm giving myself plenty of time.

I've started work on modeling out an 07 STi rally car. My reference is mainly based off of Ken Block's and Travis Pastrana's cars. Going for as much detail as I can in the model, estimating it will be somewhere between 200000-500000 polys in the end. Once the model is done, I will come up with my own paint scheme for it, suitable for a rally car.

Here's some reference I'm going to be running off of.

I will also be modeling and texturing an environment suitable for the car. The plan I have so far is a small British village with a narrow road through it, and having the car racing through it. There will be no animation in the scene, but rather some action still renders. Here's some reference I'm going to be running off of for the environment.

I'll be updating this thread as progress is made. I would appreciate any feedback anyone has on any of this, from the idea, to the model, everything.

So far, I blocked out the front end of the car today. Just laying it all out to get the general shape and body lines where they need to be. Should have the whole exterior blocked out on Sunday or Monday. I'll post up some images then.
