Nah, detonation probably killed it in one shot. I got a flashing CEL/random cylinder misfire at the time that I THINK it happened. I had 16 degrees of timing pulled at 14psi. I only pulled around 13 on the dyno. These cars definitely have a problem sparking correctly in the cold.
For example, if my car isn't well warmed up on a cold day, and I rev the motor (even in neutral), it revs smoothly, but then at say...4K RPM it will start breaking up so horridly that it won't rev any higher.
If I try it again 2 minutes later, it will make it to 4500rpm...
And it might be another 5 minutes before I can redline it.
This is NOT an issue with the MPI, AFAIK, because people with other EMS have the exact same issue.
I had the same problem (but worse) when I used to run colder plugs (about a year ago), but Nick reccomended that I run one stage hotter and it definitely helped out a lot.
