Factory Paint

Just bought me a black mica MS6 last Saturday and finally got around to giving it a nice hand wash today. What a bad paint job?!?! It's really gritty!!! I was just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a recall of any sorts for it or if there are any ideas on how to get the bumps out without having to get a new paint job.

I agree, I dont have that problem, but two weeks and already have a chip in the hood. My B4000 is paint job is really gritty on the hood, almost feels like sand paper when you wax it. I dont know of any recalls for the paint problem.

Yup....feels just like sandpaper. I'm not impressed. Someone suggested clay magic. Has anyone here heard of or tried this product?

i have the white color, an haven't noticed any grittyness. I've since put on 2 coats of maguires gold liquid wax, so it's very smooth now.

What I notice on my white one though is in certain lighting, the plastic panels are more yellow than the sheet metal panels. I hope this doesn't get more noticeable over time.

I would try clay barring it. Lots of cars pick up a bunch of junk on their paint from being transport by rail, and other pollution in the air. Using clay *should* fix this problem, if it doesn't i would contact your dealer.

Thanks for the input. I'll give the clay barring a shot next nice day I get and let everyone know how it turned out.

clay bar all the way, just did mine, waxed, and polished and now it feels like ice. the clay bar was an instant smoothness.

Hummm... About a month after I got mine... i spent a good 5-6 hours workin on her... 20 dollar can of wax from local auto shop.... Most beautiful job i've ever seen / done... So smooth... so nice...

Sound like you guys need a good waxing.. and need to use the proper items and wax to do it... You don't just spray on some cheap s***... or spend an hour on the car and call it good... Takes a lot of time and care and work to get a good job in...

And once done... If you keep it up and keep it clean... it will stay that way. Cheap wax or a halfass job = exactly what you guys talkin about...

Yeah, maybe clay barring would help. My 5 year old car claybarred half a year ago feels smoother than a friend's 1 year old car.

I have a black cherry also but have had no problems with grit in the paint, I waxed mine two weeks after I got it and love the paint and the finish... far better than the Nissan I had previously.

Out of curiosity, what wax are you using?

i used the california clay bar, and then used meguiars next generation wax, will last longer than carnuba wax becasue its synthetic.

The reason I asked is because I used Meguiars clay bar on the car back in july, and now after a month or two i used NXT on it and the hood felt gritty when I felt it with my hand. Who knows maybe the highway miles I've put on since then have something to do with it. (dunno)

those could be little rock chips in the clear, try doing the clay bar again and wax it again. make sure you do it with the car cool, ive noticed that i feels a little funny when i waxed right after driving home.

I would say if you polish the car with a machine (Porter-cable or similar tool) you will make it look far better.

1. Wash the car and dry
2. Clay bar with you choice of products.
3. Wash and dry again.
4. Polish with a fine cut polish at low speed with your DA power tool.
5. After each polish wipe with micro fiber towel and a 50/50 mix of water and isopropyl alcohol (to remove all of the polish) .
6. After the fine cut polish use a machine foam pad glaze, this will bring the shine back and make it look like a pool of water. (The more coats of this step the deeper wetter look you will get)
7. Optional use a paint sealant of your choice
8. Last wax with your preferred brand of wax and that is it.

This is the process that I use once a month and it works great. The factory paint is good but there is no wax or sealant on it so when you buy it you must do this your self or pay to have it done.
