My lids keep getting chips in the paint, and I have at least 5 coats on um. (pissed) Perhaps a clearcoat would help but I doubt it. Are there any 3m films I can apply or rockblocker material.... I need help lol(poke)

Well, first of all, 5 coats of paint is too much film build and will actually contribute to the chipping. Secondly, a clear coat will help protect the paint some but not if it really gets hit hard by a rock or something. You could use a clear chip guard coating but it will be textured and probably not look right. Theres also an "Armor Coating" paint that you could use but it has to be sprayed out of a spray gun and it will cost you $150 just for that small area.
Your best bet would be to use a 2-stage Catylized Clear out of a spray can
(1-800-548-4321). They have a button on the bottom of the can that you press to release the hardener into the can. This allows you to get the most durable clearcoat coating...the same one that a bodyshop would use, without needing a spray gun or spray booth. At only $20 a can this is your best and most economical way to prevent chipping for that area of your car.
Ditto on the coolness. I'm fixin to paint a fiberglass grill & have been concerned about chipping. May have to jump on somma this for the clear coat. Once again the forum rocks!
wow thanks for the info! Wierd thing is my fiberglass grill has'nt 1 chip or scratch in it... I think my problom may be in the process of preping/painting too.
