Exterior LED swap & review

Vicspeed6, the license plate bulbs are easy, just like you said, pop off a cover and you're all set.

I think I might not have closed one properly, because one of my bulbs has burnt out, after flickering a little bit. I checked it when it was flickering and it felt a little damp in there. I may look for a more robust solution.

Anyone got the full LED tails? If so, how much and where do you buy them? I would love to get a set, but don't feel like spending $400.

drl on the top ??

I thought the drl was the one in the middle ? when the car is running the one in the middle is on, when I turn on the headlights the one at the top comes on and the one in the middle dims...anyone else have this ???

subspeed those taillights are crazy , they fit both years?

Yep, the Tower II is what's in my DRLs. I would suggest ordering from Superbrightleds.com if you want a full set of interior and exterior, because they have a version of the Tower now, and I love their WHP LEDs for the interior stuff and the new W5 LEDs over my license plate. They now provide the colour temperature for all their bulbs on the site so it takes the guesswork out of ordering, which I love. For the record, the closer to about 4500K you are, the more pure white the light will be.

Went with the updated suggestion for the neutral white W5s in the license plate lights and it does look very nice. I also went with the superbrightLED variant on the tower 2s but think they are still a little blue for my taste (still better than the stock 194 bulbs though). Also, I finally got around to installing my 5000k fog light bulbs after a couple of weeks of keeping my fogs off since one of them burned out. While looking at the front with all the lights on looks better than stock, I still would like a closer color match. I now have slightly blue DRLs, stock HIDs and almost white fog lights. Too bad yellow fogs would look out of place on my car here in the desert since we rarely have an actual need for our fogs to be functional and most people here don't realize the purpose of having them yellow. Maybe when I have a little more free time and some extra disposable cash I will go back on the hunt for that ideal blend of bulbs. Sorry I don't have any pics to post, but my phone is consistent in that it takes crappy pictures.

I already swapped most of mine out, but I'm revisiting this. I did some searching and found that Superbright has some that I might consider using for the rear, teh WLED-WHP15, which put out 75 lumens, which should be enough for the reverse lights. Only problem...price. $16.95 per bulb.

One of my interior lights went bad, so I'm gonna replace them with brighter oens (only using the wedge singles right now) and I'm thinking of doing the x5's for the license plate in warm white, and the WHP15s in cool white for reverse bulbs.

somebody NEEDS to find a good white (non-blue) 194 LED.... the autolumination version is way too blue, especially when you have the actual white HID and the "halogen white/yellow" OEM fog turned on.....

3 different colors looks like crap.

Are you referring to the ones for the DRLs?

no, on the USDM MS6 I don't think we have DRL.

I was talking about the parking lights, city lights, whatever you want to call them... located on the inner reflector

Sorry, I meant that bulb. I don't know what to call them, but I know which ones you mean. I have the PIAA extreme white LED bulbs in there. They're very similar to the 'cool white' that SB sells. They don't match the stock bulbs, but with a 6000 or 8000k HID set, they should look pretty good.

Also, if you're looking for a nice set of fogs for a good price, check out the Hoen Xenonmatch H11s. They match up better than the stock brown ones.

I'm Kind of a newb to the mazda speed 6 headlights. Does anyone know how to open the back of the headlight up so I can pull the running lights out and replace them with the new lights? Is there any tools required to do it?

There's a hard dust cover, but you shouldn't need tools to get the cover off. you'll need a set of stubby needle nose pliers to get the bulbs out, and if you have the stock airbox, simply remove the upper portion to get more room to get the cover off.

Thanks!

Edit: Just put the tower II white ones in, took me all but 5 min to do it. Thanks again!

tunersteve, I think the warm white might look a bit odd with the mix... the 4500k "natural white" or whatever they call it looks awesome and is actually WHITE white. I think they'd be a better match, unless you specifically want them to look different.

mdogg, I agree. I've been hoping that there will be a version like the Tower II (or superbright's version) at 4500k. The x5's now have that natural white, and I'm hoping they keep adding to the line. These ones are pretty much perfect, but they don't fit in the parking light holes.

For those of you that have amber fogs which color did you choose? I see diamond yellow and 3000k-3500k yellow.

Also does anyone have amber drl's with amber fogs? How does it look?
