Exhaust - Which one? How much?

I don't know about Skunk2 cat back.... but I know they are very loud and expensive!!! he he

we will see....i got it at cost so i will let everybody know once i got it....i got it less than the greddy evo...i'm not sure how loud it will be

probably as loud as the JIC since it's the same basic design. N1 canister with very little obstructions in terms of resonators and such. good luck. please keep us posted.

So the Racing Beat sounds like the one to go with, if you have the money. After reading all this I have Thermal R&D, Racing Beat, and MazdaSpeed written down. I don't want a rice sound, although I know I don't own a truck, I want a deep sound. The Injen intake isn't THAT deep, but it's deeper than stock and I like that sound. If anyone has the Injen and one of these three exhaust, I would appriciate the input on deepness comparison, not loudness. Loud isn't that big of an issue, once it cools down, around fall, full dynamat is going in to help reduce road noise. I'm sure some noise will still get through, but it will help. Thanks for any more input you can give that isn't already on here.

the racing beat injen combo is deep. like a boat motor deep. but in a good way. it goes... vrooooooooooooooom when you get on it. like an unmodded camaro or something... but not as throaty... pretty close though.

personally i like the HKS axle back...imo its a waste to get the catbacks as our piping is already big enough...and it comes with a silencer that you will need if you ever put on headers or take off your cats

Thats a good point. I wouldn't need the silencer since I can't get a legal header, or take off my cats. But the pipe size thing sounds like a good argument. I was also wondering that. If I stick with the stock header, that restrains air flow, but add a cat back exhaust that has a thicker pipe, wouldn't it be pointless. Going from small bandwidth to large... Sure once it hits the large pipe it will flow better, but getting there is going to be the same. Maybe I'm trying to compare cars and computers too much. If you couldn't tell, I'm new to this car mod thing. Also, I saw aftermarket cats that have a bigger diameter, if I'm not replacing the header, would these cats help any?

[offtopic] ahh...a Blues fan [/offtopic]

Thanks for the tip, thats a good deal. If it does give a deep throaty sound, it would be twice as good as the Racing Beat for less. I'm sure their 9hp gain is poked at a bit, but RB says 4.7hp gain.

srmotorsports doesn't disclaim that their "tester" protege also had a few mods that weren't mentioned. this is the only way they got a 9hp gain. like you said, keeping the stock header and two cats will never realize that big of a gain since there is still a bottleneck. i'd buy racing beat's claim over the srmotorsports claim... although i wouldn't mind having their exhaust either. at $300, it's a good deal.

my goal is to go 2.25" piping from the header back with a couple of high flow cats. as for the header, i want to go the shorty route, but everything i have come across is ass expensive. oh well, at least that way, i won't ever get a CEL nor will i get s*** for emissions. i'm hoping for similar if not the same gains as i would get from longtube headers without the primary cat. that'd be cool.

I have an Injen CAI and a MS axelback.

Like I mentioned, it does get a little loud at RPMs above 4k, which isn't all that uncommon for these high revving Mazdas. I recently drove to Las Vegas with my father in law(!), and he never complained about the exhaust drone at all( The coilovers are a different story;)). As far as the sound that it makes, I LOVE it. As Linda Richmond would say: " It's loik Buttah." :D

MrFoggy has an eBay intake and a Racing Beat cat-back, and it's definately less loud than my Mazdaspeed exhaust. It sounds really nice too. If I was going to get a new exhaust, it'd either be R.B. or JIC(who makes the lightest weight one I've seen).

Also mentioned before, Rishie(ARD_MP5) would be the best guy to talk to as he's done some first-hand comparisons, plus he's got connections for pretty much everything we've mentioned.

My opinion:
Price wise: Mazdaspeed axelback
The very best: Racing Beat or JIC

Have Fun! (wrc)
