Exhaust upgrades???

Had my new SRI installed (yes, didn't trust myself with this install)

Ended up with the SURE Aeros. Sounds great, definitely feel the increase. I've read that my on board computer will "learn" about the new mod and make certain fuel/air adjustments accordingly.

Am I OK to enjoy this mod without a tune or do I have to get the Hypertech? Tad too expensive right now. Wish could find a used one

Man this thread got out of hand quick!
I just put a corksport stage 2 SRI in last week. Its amazing, like driving a new car.
It was my 1st mod but i also bought a DP. You dont need internals if you're slapping on some bolt-ons; FMIC, SRI, DP
For daily driving you'll be fine im sure
From guys Ive met and on this forum seem to agree a Hypertech or Cobb A/P is a great this for the Speed BUT you must be careful with the Cobb A/P...dont paperweight your car.

@MSMS3 i read the Cobb vs. Hypertech thread...amazing!

How will a FMIC react with a hypertech?? The cobb is too much for me to drive to work with i think, i want simple and safe.
Also, whats the advantage of a blow-off vs. stock resirc valve vs. hybrid blow-off/resirc for a FMIC? And why would i need a boost cut killer with a FMIC?
Thoughts???

Big E - what DP did you get? Have you installed and if so what are your thoughts? This will be my next mod, I'm just debating price wise, should I go ahead and get the HT to even out my SRI performance.

Since SRI install, I have driven on two tanks of gas and went down about 25mpg on regular driving (of course I enjoyed it several times!). Curious if a tune will fix this issue.

But I'd like to get a DP to complement the intake and am looking for any suggestions on a logical next move.....

I strongly recommend getting a tune first, then upgrading the high-pressure fuel pump before getting a DP. At the very least, get something to monitor fuel pressure. Once you upgrade the DP, the stock HPFP won't be able to keep up for long. Autotech makes good internals, as does PTP. PTP and CP-E also offer complete pump upgrades.

There are lots of DP options, once you decide to go for it. There are lots of manufacturers making catted and catless in both once piece and two piece designs.

I like the products that corksport put out so i tend to stick with them. I got a corksport DP and intake. I used to have a protege and got alot of parts from corksport and they were always great quality products and great help when needed.
That being said theres alot of options out there that are great.

Im confused why i would need to upgrade the fuel pump? Im not adding any more fuel than before with a new DP and i dont need anymore PSI for the fuel system. Just making it more efficient by breathing easier, I would assume you would spool faster and i wouldnt really say you're gaining HP as more setting it free from the stock crappy parts. To me if you're putting on some bolt-ons and get a hypertech the rest of the car should keep up no problem cuz youe not asking it to do anything it wasnt before.
Im not saying you're wrong bud im just asking why is all??

This is an article by import tuner, they use an '08 speed3.
They love the corksport DP, dyno'd it and got almost 30 lb-ft of torque. They couldnt find any cons about the DP, Check it out.
They do mention a low-end power loss when adding an intake though but we all knew this already, thats where a Hypertech comes in.
Im personally gonna say with just an intake on my car there is no power loss, all gain. Its so much quicker on the bottom end and pulls much stronger all the way to redline. With different intakes you get different reactions i suppose.

You run the risk of overboosting with a new DP. Since it flows more, more air=more fuel needed. Do what you want, but you have been warned.

See but heres what i dont understand...The car won't let itself overboost to explosion if i put simple bolt-ons on no? But it will get boost spikes, It gets boost spikes in its stock set-up anyways.
So if i get a new boost control solenoid then you must tune, so could i use the Cobb A/P for this?
Does the hypertech compensate for this possible situation?
I dont want to explode my car, i really like my car...

I saw up there earlier that somebody said you need to tune your ms3 if you get a downpipe/racepipe. Is an accessport a good enough tune for that or do you need to bring it to a dyno and have it professionally tuned?

Tuning with any flow mods is a good idea, especially with a downpipe. An AccessPort will let you either tune yourself or get a pro tune. You can either get a dyno tune or an e-tune for one of the multiple reputable tuners.

If you get the Grimmspeed and run it in 2 port mode you don't need to tune it
