I was driving the other day and my buddy was riding behind me. When we pull up to taco bell, he goes "your exhaust smells like gasoline." I smelt it is and it did. I dont know if the gasoline isnt getting burnt all the way or what?
Any ideas?

Is he sure that it's not the tacos from Taco Smell? :D

I have noticed a gas smell from under my car lately. I got a code P0455 I think, and it said there is a leak detected in my evaporative system. I need to go look it up...

let me know if you get it
thx

And the taco bell smell came after i ate the taco bell from my exhaust not my car's LOL

You might ahve a bad cat... I had that smell when my precat was going bad
If that's the case, he would more than likely be getting a CEL.

FLSilverP5, is this the case? Also, have you noticed any drop in your MPG?

yes, a pretty dramatic drop. Ive posted about that problem on its own. But i just realized my exhaust stinks. What is CEL? Which cat do u think it is?

Could be your O2 sensor. I have an old Audi that was doing the same thing, getting terrible MPG. I replaced the O2 sensor ($35) and it's back to normal. It's real easy...bolts into the exhaust.

btw...this is my first post...getting my '02 P5 today!!! 29k, Blue

how much?
how would i specify the problem down to find out exactly wat is wrong with it? You are talking about the 02 sensor in the exhaust not the intake? if i get a new exhaust r there things included?

o2 sensor

yes, the O2 sensor is on the exhaust. I believe on this car it is screwed into the exhaust manifold and is REALLY EASY to get to. Just pick one up at an auto parts store or dealer (around $30), unplug and unscrew the old one and screw the new one in. I bet it would only take 15 minutes. My old audi's O2 sensor was under the car, but I'm pretty sure this one isn't.

btw, my 2002 P5 is being delivered on thursday night. Can't wait!!!

Yes I have the one that is on the exhaust. Its in the downpipe to be exact.
No these do not come with new axhaust.
As far as price, yes 02 sensors used to be cheap. But on new cars they are not. I just bought 4 new ones for my o2 4Runner and they were $180 a piece.

I will call and see what a new one is and sell it to you for 1/3 of that shipped. Sound fair?

You should go to a place like autozone to have them pull a code to see if its one or the other. If thay cant tell you, bite the bullet and take it somewhere you trust.
