Exhaust rattle

I have been getting a rattle in my exhaust system ever since I threw the stock catted midpipe for smog. I have the Perrin JBE (right now it is just a cb) and before I did this there was no rattle. I think it is hitting the rear axle, and it gets much worse when other people sit in my car. I want to put in the catless midpipe, but my dad is the main driver of the car right now, and I can't make it too loud for him, and the cats really quiet it down.

Any suggestions?

my sp2 rattles against the gas tank. its obnoxious. i've been considering some heat wrap or something to try and quiet it down.

Check to see if it's the long heatshield that goes along the catback pipe. My corksport bumped against that so I ended up removing it completely.

i actually popped one of the tack welds that holds the nut to the inside of the floor on that (doing an ebrake cable), so i had to rip it out with vice grips. but i shoved a 1/2" bolt or so in there, pumped it full of RTV and its still holding it with zero wiggle in the bolt or shield despite being the ghetto-est solution ever.

i digress. is there any drawback to removing the shield? i considered pulling it out but i wasnt sure. it didnt melt your floor or anything, i assume?
(note: i dont think thats whats causing my rattle, but i might just pull it out anyways)

Yea I couldn't get a single one of those bolts free. Mazda really cheaped out when making some s*** on these cars. I ended up using a dremel to cut off the shield around each bolt and then I just pulled it out. I ended up wrapping that section of the exhaust in heat wrap but I know people who didn't wrap it with anything.

word. i was able to get 3 of the four, and the one i couldnt reach and let my buddy do, he broke. good idea on heatwrap.

Have you thought about changing up the exhaust hangers? when I first installed my Perrin exhaust the pipes would slightly vibrate off the Tranny cross member or the rear axle. I tried to get off the shelf hangers but they just didn't pull the exhaust up tight enough when they heated up. Finally broke down and spent the money on the Corksport hangers and haven't had a problem since!!

I didn't even think of new hangers. I'll check em out! I'm probably gonna do the heat shield first just cause its free hehe.

Ok so I was about to get new hangers when I thought of trying something out. I know I haven't posted here in a while hehe.

I am considering getting some rubber that can withstand the heat, getting some strong clamps, and clamping the rubber to the rear axle where the exhaust is rattling. I would also heat wrap the pipe above the rubber to add padding, and also prevent any chance of melting.

Any thoughts? I am gonna try to get the parts sometime this weekend or early next week, throw it on and see how it works. That should save me a nice chunk of change so I don't have to buy new hangers, midpipes, whatever.
