Exercise

I used to run 6 miles every afternoon in HS for the XC team. . . and I was the worst kid on the team. The better runners did 7-10.

However, if I were to run 6 miles today...I'd prolly pass out at the second mile marker.

ive got a story. 10th grade year of high school i was about 5'9 id say and i weighed somewhere around 183. I was not really huge but i kinda resembled bobby from the show king of the hill. well during spring break i worked my ass off at work and lost nearly 10 lbs in a week. i could not believe it, i wasnt even trying and it made me realize how easy it is to lose weight. i had always been one to play neighborhood sports but nothing vigorous enough to lose weight. well after i began running every night and got up to running 5 miles a night. from april 2000 to august 2000 i went from 183 to 140. i could not believe it, but then i was a little too skinny so i added 10 more lbs. so right now i am 5'11 and weigh about 156 and havent put the weight back on since. i try to push mow instead of use the rider, use stairs not the elevator and things like that to always stay my weight. not to mention i went to basic training during the summer of 02 which put me in the greatest physical shape ever but now im losing my tone and just staying thin. i need to start working out again though. well thats my story summed up

V.A. hospitals

Big_Ben, you should see the V.A. hospitals over here in Las Vegas.....they look like CRACK HOUSES!!! And the service that they give is just down right piss poor!!!

But as far as the benefits go....yes they`re good. They just take w-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-y too long to get going. Especially when you`re trying to activate your G.I. Bill.

I don't know if I could go more than 3 miles on a run... Maybe 5 if I really tried. My knees just start hurting. I bought new shoes too which have helped, but me + pavement = no good.

Chris

I'm doing 30 minute sessions on my Nordic Track now (4 days a week), and that extra 5 mnutes.....yeah! I feel it.

Put some good jazz into the CD player, put the earbuds in - sweet! (thumb)

Especially when you`re trying to activate your G.I. Bill.
The GI Bill is the s***! I get $1050/month and that's $4200 per semester. School only costs a little over $2000 per semester. The rest is just gravy.:D But with your injury, you will be getting VEAP plus your GI Bill also so you will probably getting in the range of at least $2000/month! At least you get paid for your injury.:D

big-ben, God I hope that V.A. does`nt try and pull a fast one on me. They`ve been known to do that before. I know one thing......they and the navy are going to try their damnest not to give me any compensation for my damages. I`ve heard allot of horror stories from other people on how the military and V.A. screwed them out of their compensation.

Case in point: I had this one guy in my division that did his birth month screening, and the jackasses in medical said that he had testicular cancer in one of his nuts. They turned around and cut it off, and examined it.....only to find NO CANCER!!!!:wtf: Now that he`s out of the navy, he`s trying his damnest to get something out of it. Last I heard, it was`nt going too well.

Damn,....that sucks a huge nut! :D The key to getting your way with the VA or the military is to stick to your guns. There is always another form you can fill out when you think things are done and over with.

Good to see our tax dollars at work.

I'm not sure if this was meant to be sarcastic or if this was sincere. I hope it was sincere or I'm going to be pissed.

If it was sincere,.....thank you.

If it was supposed to be sarcastic then here you go.

When was the last time you spent 10 months of your life in a 1/2 mile square camp surrounded by concertina wire and concrete dragons teeth. We couldn't leave the 1/2 mile square the whole time by the way. So for that 10 months of my life, I was in one spot. When was the last time you worked a 120 hour work week with no vacation for 10 months? When was the last time you risked your life to go fight for a cause that never put the nation of America at risk? When was the last time you risked your life to free millions of people from genocide? When was the last time you had to live with the fact that everyday for 3 months straight, it was because of your targeting that thousands of Serbian troops were killed from the bombs that you guided to them? When was the last time you gave the coordinates to 2 B52 heavy bombers so they could completely level a whole village just because you saw two tanks there?

Until you have done even one of those things, shut the **** up and go serve your time you pussy. If your are too much of a b**** to do that, then don't you ever comment negativly on the US military again or I will fly to South Amboy, NJ and beat the ******* s*** out of you.

If I took your remark the wrong way, ignore all of the above.

Amen big_ben!!(stupid) I was in the navy for well over eight years, and been involved in and done allot of operations. A majority of which I can not talk about. But there`s nothing more that pisses me off when some jackass tries to talk sh!t about our time in and the benefits that are due to us, and have no ****`N idea what we went through!!!

My last three cruises were spent in the Persian Gulf. And if there`s ever a place to be where everybody hates you (even your allies:wtf: ), this is the place to be. Whether I was controlling aircraft over southern Iraq to protect the Curds, or launching thomohawks and airstrikes at Al Quada from the Arabian Sea. And having very close friends KILLED by SHITBAG Al Quada on the U.S.S. Cole. Or having front row seats to a possible nukeclear war between India and Pakistan while doing manuvers in the Arabian Sea. And above all......not being able to pull into any ports to relax after working 20hr. shifts for seven months straight, due to possible terror attacks!!!

Now you tell me if we do not deserve our benefits! Lord knows, allot of us paid for it in blood.

Now that`s my 0.02 cents!

Yeah, he can just eat s*** and die for all I care. I know Iv'e earned my education instead of letting my mommy and daddy pay for my way.

Funny thing is, that`s the whole reason I went into the navy:
The G.I. Bill
The Navy College Fund

Plus....it looks good on your resume':p

And to think, after being a military brat for a majority of my life, with my father having 30yrs in the airforce and living around the world....I nearly joined the airforce to be a P.J. But thanks to the recruiter pissing me off, I joined the navy.

I joined about 90% for the GI bill and about 10% for the life experience since at least one person in every generation of my family has served. My dad was in the Navy during Vietnam and in the Army during Desert Storm. My grandfather was in the navy in the Pacific during WWII then in Italy for the end of WWII. Before that, My great grand father was in WWI, prior to that I have no idea. I served my 4 years in Army Intelligence and one year of that was spent in Kosovo and Macedonia. There's tons of intell stuff that I got the privilige to see and hear. I can't even talk about it to my family, but I'm glad I know the different levels at which our government and military works to protect the US. I have seen some crazy things, some horrible things, and I have had some great times and met and bonded with guys so much that we practically became brothers. We knew what each other were feeling and didn't even have to say anything to know it. That's how close a deployment brings you together.

I was dead set against the military up until about 2 weeks prior to joining. Then I just said "why not". And I don't regret it. I'm glad its over because there's no money in the military, but I loved it and I'm proud of it. I think ALL American men should have to serve at least 2 years by law. It makes you grow into a great man.

But guys like that moron are just bitches. They are probably just afraid to take a shower with another guy in a community shower. HOMOPHOBE! He's probably afraid he'll like it too much and get a hard on then get his ass beat.

In Micah's defense...
You guys are being brutal ... You dont even know how he meant that yet.
Give him a chance to reply, and even if he did mean it that way, I doubt that he deserves all that "eat s*** and die" stuff. This is not FLAMEWARS; its the off topic thread. Chill out.

Actually, I meant it's nice to see that our tax dollars are spent on education, instead of the usual bulls***.

But for your other comment. I feel no pity for servicemen, they know exactly what they are signing up for. s*** happens, put yourself in that position, and s*** might happen to you. My father is ex-military and many of my friends are in the military. If they die, then I will be sorry to see them go, but - they knew the risk, they wanted to join the service.

People have all sorts of reasons for joining:

love of country
want to be a hero
school grants
travel
get in shape
etc.

Hell, I even considered it a few times, but I like my life, I like my freedoms. It's great that people choose to serve. They are out there fighting for my freedoms. While they are laying their lives out, I am enjoying what they are fighting for. I respect them for doing what they believe to be right. I am doing what I believe to be right. I enjoy working my 9-5 job, saving money in my 401k, and generally wasting my time with friends, toys, and random road trips/vacations.

While my friends joined the service, and saw the world, learned alot of skills, and got in really good shape; I had fun the way I wanted to. I got drunk, played with lots of drugs, went to lots of party's, took last minute flights with friends to visit friends at College, wasted money like crazy, and had a blast the whole time. I hopped around from job to job, renting rooms, apartments and sharing houses with friends.

My military friends have had their fun times, I've had mine - it's not like either is morally right or wrong, just made our own choices. In the end, I'm pretty happy. I'm 26, got a perfectly clean record, I'm a responsible gun owner (it was a phase - anyone looking to buy a .357 revolver or a .22 Marlin Rifle?), clean credit, have a good job - and a fun car.

I don't vote either, no desire to cast my drop in the bucket to sway the masses, then to hope that my states representative will vote in accordance.

Just don't go mailing me the 'thrax, or any of those depleted uranium shells I keep hearing about on the news.

Whoa, I just went back and read the first post.

That's one hell of a threadjack, - follow the train of thought across the thread. Changes at least 3 times.

Micah....I respect your veiws and comments. And anybody is intitled to their own opinions.....just always remember who gave you those freedoms that you so enjoy.

Anyways....lets bring this thread back to what it was supposed to be about....EXERCISE!!:p

Than I take back everything I said.:D Like I said in my post before I went off, I didn't know if you were serious or sarcastic.

And I don't ask for anyone's pity, I knew what I was signing up for, and I got it. And I loved it.:D Well, at least half of it.
