Exercise

Good tips. Even some stuff I didn't know. I didn't know that 1lb of muscle could burn that much fat.

Well I thought I'd revive the ole thread to see some people's progress :). I've lost about 17 more pounds to bring the total to 35 lost. I'm at a solid 160 now and have been since the end of May. Now I'm just working on building some muscle.

I'll have to post a before/after picture sometime. The difference in my face is quite crazy :p.

Chris

Nordic Track 4 days per week (minimum 25 minute sessions in the morning)
& Mountain Bike ride.

Works for me.

I'm 6'4" 185lbs.

Highschool/College: 165lbs 6'3"
Ate whatever I wanted, only exercise was walking to class.

Year later: 179lbs 6'3"
Eat less, excercise less....I need to do something but I'm too damn lazy. I'm a computer geek...going to the gym just isn't my scene if you know what I mean...jelly bean.

Ok, I'll stop with the rhyming...I used to Mountain Bike all through HS, but when my bike got stolen at College I lost interest.

I'm not a big fan of the gym either. But my apartment has a small exercise room with a few treadmills, exercise bikes and weight-station thing. I've been using that since January and eating much better to achieve results. I eat more than when I began the diet, but am still at a steady weight for the past 2 months. Metabolism goes up with muscle etc so thats kind of nice, because I like food :).

I run 2 miles, ride a bike for 5 and do numerous other exceries at my house

Getting started exercising, I think; is the hardest part. But once you get going; you wonder why you didn't start earlier. At least, that's the way it's always been with me. The funny thing is; I used to wake up in the morning wondering where I was going to get the energy. Now; on days, I don't Nordic Track, I actually feel more tired.

I actually have one of the original Nordic Track Sport World Class Editions. It will bust your ass! Ha! I put on the Jazz, and get after it.

Damn, that's a lot of weight you lost. I have lost 20lbs since January. I am a total gym rat though. I moved to Texas and stopped going to the gym for like a year and balooned to right at 200lbs. I am only 5'5" also.

Now I'm back down to a SOLID 180lbs, my bench press has gone back to 225lbs 10 times with a one rep max of 295lbs. My best bench is 300lbs and I weighed 150lbs. That was like 5 years ago though.

I have gained all my size in my arms back. I think they are at 18" again. I've always had huge arms though. My friends in the army used to call me several names, popeye, mighty mouse, and of course Big Ben for a play on my height.:D

My goals for body weight are to get down to 160lbs. I hope to be there by December. The slower you lose the weight, the easier it is to keep it off. So don't try to go on a crash diet and lose tons of weight fast. You will most likely lose the habit of the diet and gain it back.

My goals for bench is 300lbs again, Squat is 315lbs 10 times.

That's not fat at all for that height. That's actually very skinny. A normal weight for anything 6' and up would be 200lbs or more. If I were you I'd eat more and lift light weights at least 3 days a week.

Yep. The hardest part is the first 3 weeks. That's when you get VERY sore from the workout. But after that, it's all down hill and it gets easier and easier. Then, if you are like me, you get totally addicted to the gym. If I don't go 6 days a week, I feel like a lazy piece of s***. Seriously. I love the gym though, it's different for everyone. Some love it, some hate it.

I think most of us that workout agree; that we sleep better, and simply feel better.

It's no secret that I'm 49 years old. To me; it is important to be on an exercise program. I love life too much. My cholesterol is obviously lower, as well. Not to mention; a cardiovascular workout is great for the heart.

My eating habits haven't changed. I love food. And; I drink 2 beers a day Mon-Thurs., and more on the weekends.

I have packed on lots of muscle since January, that's why I haven't lost anymore weight. The loss in fat weight is balancing out the gain in muscle. The best way I can tell is that I can eat anything I want now. But I still don't do that. I always watch what I eat now. But my weakness is Hooters hot wings, and I indulge in those about 2 or 3 times a month.:D But everything else is either chicken breast or fish. I try not to eat red meat unless it's a steak at a restaurant. NO GROUND BEEF UNLESS IT'S THE 96% LEAN! Ground beef is the devil!

But yeah, like AGR said, I sleep like a dead man now and I have TONS of energy.

Ben: Good to hear from ya! Have you ever gotten over to Texas Motor Speedway for the IRL race? We had a blast in Nashville this past weekend?

I went to one last year. I had tickets on the finish line this year but I couldn't go. I tried to sell the tickets, no onw wanted them. Then I tried to give them away, no one wanted them! Idiots!

Yeah, it came off pretty easy! I don't think I'll gain it back though. I ate everything I liked, just less. Now I eat a bit more, but definitely not like I used to :). I've been this way for about 2 months now, so I think my eating and my body are in a happy equilibrium.

 wow, thats quite a bench. I started at 4 sets of 10 at a flimsy 90lbs and now do 4 sets of 12 (120, 130, 130, 120). I think I'm ready to do 130, 140, 140, 130 though. But I can't imagine doing 10 reps at 200 :). Maybe someday.

I can totally tell a difference though. I fill up my shirt now and completely lost my man-boobs :D.

Exactly. Being patient is key. In my case, I think it just came off a little faster. Everybody is different!

On of they keys to Exercise is as previousely stated; getting a routine setup.
Its hard to actually start anything at first till you adapt it into your daily/weekly/monthly habit.
After you getting over the mental block of; "This is hard", "I don't have time" etc the actually act of Exercise becomes easy.

To those that can't do it in the morning then do it in the evening. Come home and instead of sitting down, change and go to the gym. Sometimes if you sit down it becomes harder to get back up.

Course I am one to talk since I have seriousely let myself go in the past years. :(

*slinks off away in shame* lol

This cool to read. I also just started my workout routine this week coincidentally. I started on Monday and I go every other day Monday, Wednesday, Friday. I staying away from Cardio for now becuase I don't want to lose weight. I'm 5'9 and weight 158, when I graduated from high school I was 5'8 and 135. I'm trying to tone up a bit so I don't feel ashamed to walk around with my shirt off. I too was very active when I was younger. I played soccer from 6yrs old all the way up until I was 19yrs old (I'm 23 now). I also played baseball every year and even tried football (I was too small) and I was always played some kind of organized sports with the fellas in the off season for soccer. I used to do the whole desk job thing, but I couldn't stay awake to boring. So now I'm in retail as a store manager so, I get plenty of exercise walking the sales floor. Which is probably helping me stay slim (on my feet walking back and forth in my store for 8 hrs).

Before I got out of the navy, I used to go runing 5 miles, 4 times a week. And worked out 5 days a week. I`m 5'11 @ 185lbs. But...just before my time was up, I sustained a major head trauma w/ a 3' gash on the top of the left side of my head(11 staples) and a compression fracture from my C1 to C7 of my neck!!
The navy never bothered to take care of my neck, which i`m now dealing w/ Veteran`s Assistance.

Anyway....it`s been nearly a full year since i`ve been out, and the pain is unbareable at times, which in turn makes it hard to work out. Ever since then i`ve been up and down w/ the weight.

It`s painfull, but i`m determined to keep in shape!!!

All I can say is "**** military medical"!!!

the best feeling in the world, i dont care what anyone says, no drug no nothing can top it, is coming back from a good long run and ur not even breathing heavy... u feel like u could just go all day long and take on the entire world, and when u feel it u feel invincible

I know what you mean. I feel like that after getting off the Nordic Track.

I listen to some good jazz, and it's great!
