is it just me or is this guy at school right? he told me the only downfall about the evos is that you cant drive them in the rain. i was like what??? he said becasue of their hood scoop thing. whatever that means.

so whats the deal is there a big ass hole in the hood that doesnt have some kind of rain drop thing or what ?

huh! thats a recessed vent no air is leading to it? ask perf or someone, they have an evo...

I have to call :bs: on this ....I have a hard time believing that a $30K+ car cant be driven in the rain....sounds to me like your buddy at school is full of s***. I've met a few like that too...guys that "know" everything.:D

wtf! don't drive evos in the rain? LOL! and here i thought that it'd be more fun driving that in the rain since it's AWD and all

its bs. There is someone with an evo that lives like a mile away from me and they are always driving it in the rain. I am pretty sure the rally evos have the vent too and they have to run in the rain so its gotta work. If the evo couldnt be driven in the rain then neither could the wrx or sti or any other car with a hood scoop.

think about this-
a $30000 car thats engineered only to drive when its not raining?!

WOW. BS BS BS BS.

you should have thought about that.
LOL

hrmm, since when the hell couldnt you drive a car in the rain... if it came with ******* windshield wipers, im pretty sure you can drive it in the rain.... unless those are just bird s*** wipers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA You should go on the Subaru board and ask if getting water in your STi intercooler will mess it up, maybe it'll melt it, hahahha looks like somebody believed the rumor

yea the fact that he called it a hoop scoop ist the first give away to his ignorance. i admit im not to fimiliar with the design of the recessed hood, i know the function but have never been up close to a evo so i cant say if rain can or can't go threw it but even if it did its prob very small amounts and its not like it would just poor into the intake manifold or something. personaly i would be shittin my pants everytime the weather man said it was going to rain if i had that car :) fun times.

(rofl) (lol)

ok, it is very agreeable that it would be pointless to have a 30 grand car and not be able to drive it in the rain. but i stumbled across this picture at an evo forum with some confusion. (by the way this picture is genuine and not altered. it seemed to be a magnet type thing that he put on his car. probably at a track or something, because the rest of the pix where of his car at a track course)

and this pic i found with the hood popped on the evo, showing nothing but a big hole in the hood. if there is a big hole in the hood, then somehow the engine compartment must be getting wet?

i guess by the " pray for rain" thing, the guy was saying if its rains, i cant drive, but untill then i'll kick your ass.

uhm.. from what i have read b4, the evo hood from ww comes with panels so u can put them on and not worry about rain and vice versa if u dont want them on to let the heat out. like forcefred said b4.. "who cares?! water always gets on our motor, if not from the top, from overspray under our car. everything is sealed tight and unless u have your car or motor under water then u should panic..." im looking into investing into this hood. good topic dude. peace - chris

i have seen people test driving them at the dealership near me in the rain. so ur telling me the dealer is going to say u cant have it today cause its raining

im not putting down the evo in any way, its a car im considering next, but it just made me wonder. i mean the intake is right under the hole in the hood, i was just wondering if there is some sort of rain drop type thing or closure that doesnt allow anything under the hood. maybe its just ok for rain to hit the engine like that, i dont know, i mean its a pretty big hole in the hood.

its the Easy Engine Bay washer Mod lmao , but i bet the engine bay must be cleaner after it rains jus cary some easy green, and jus befor it rains spry some over the vent and wen it rains BAMMM clean engine bay lmao

isn't it just the exhaust manifold under the hole, not the intake? i would say that the water probably hardly touches it, or at least for any amount of time due to the heat of the manifold. also, if it does touch it, it's going to be hitting the heat shield, which won't be a very big problem, or if the heat shield is removed, the manifold is cast iron and i doubt it's going to have any serious effects. i don't see any serious issues with water going down the hole, and i trust mistu enough to trust this design.

Mitsubishi has been making turbo-charged cars forever. You bet they thought of rain when designing their best one yet.
