ES auto vs. Corolla S auto

2003 Corolla S: (Auto)

130Horsepower
125lb-fts torque
curb-weight: (2590)
max horsepower: 130@6000rpm's
max Torque: 125@4200rpm's
0-60..................................................10.1sec

02 Protege ES: (Auto)

130Horsepower
135lb-fts torque
curb-weight: (2634)
max horsepower: 130@6000rpm's
max Torque: 135@4000rpm's
0-60...............................................9.9sec

It's Probably a Driver's race, but i say the Protege would win if you launch your auto right.;)

umm... if you have an msp and barely walked away from a corolla, you need to freshen up your shifting skills. heh heh... just giving you a hard time.

i've raced one and walked aaaaaaaaalllllllllll over it. it even had rims, exhaust and intake...

LOL (rofl) I'm Pretty Sure a MSP would kill a Corolla by many Bus Length's:o

Hell yea! to the altezza! they got power i tell you...
Well that sounds more reasuring, cuz I can brake torque okay... I don't think my friend even knows what that is... So yea, it should be interesting... I'll try the manual shifting bit as well. And while we're on that subject, does anyone know if that is safe for the automatic transmission? Manually shifting that is... Sometimes I'll even downshift to second going on turns, the revs shoot up to about 4000 or so, but it seems really smooth doing so, no abrubt jolt or anything, I think it's because of the syncros. But I am told that it puts a lot of stress on the transmission, is that true?

Just a stupid little thing i thought I might share. I raced my friend in his 200hp Nissan pathfinder... We didn't have anyone to do the san, ni, ich, GO! thing for us, so we had to do it ourselves. At first my friend did the countdown, and he beat me. We did it again with me doing the countdown, and we were dead even. We did it a final time, with me counting again, and I really got a good timing with my break torque, and I pulled away each time i went over 5000 rpm. Pretty fun race. But then again, i think his car is funner. It's his parents car so he abuses it like hell. There was a construction zone where they were clearing the land to build houses, it was like a giant open dirt rally course. We took his pathfinder through there and did some harcore rally style driting. It was so much fun i tried to bring the protege through, but the moment i hit the dirt, i knew the car couldn't take it... i turned back feeling all depressed lol. anyways... thanks for all the info guys, it's much appreciated.

midnight, yes its ok for the tranny, ..just try to stay away from the rev limiter, acctualy if you are flooring it in 1st you can acctualy put it into second at like 3k rpms and it will shift for you at 6500 and same when u go from 2nd to drive...

Yea, i discovered that too! I also discovered that u can downshift into a lower gear, and the tranny will downshift only when it's safe too... ex. shifting to second at 120kph... But when u try to downshift when it's not possible, there must be a throttle input when the car reaches the right speed for the tranny to initiate the downshift, but if the car sees that it is safe to downshift, the shift will be immediate even if there is no throttle input. So Mp5Jeff, do u drive stick? Or is yours an auto as well?

Ok, since I just had an 03' Corolla S, I beat Ghost & XelderX who had stock P5's at the time. The VVTI is a great engine, pretty good pick up, but mods were hard to come by. I would have to say the S would win that one since I did it myself.

What are you afraid of? Just race the kid and get it over with! Worst case scenario: You lose to a Corolla S. Oh well, your car is stock.

Oh, Laracroft
Congrats on your car
(I remember you from the p.club from the discussion about that female cheating thread)
and i do remember you having that corollo, white, right?
Enjoy that blazing yellow mazda speed!

9.9 seconds 0 - 60 for the Auto P5? Daaamn... I've shaved my manual P5 down to 8.5 seconds, and that was before my intake, exhaust, mounts, and whatnot. =P

Yea, exactly! I have an ES meaning it's faster!!!!

jokes jokes, look ppl, there's no difference between the ES and a P5!!! One's a hatch, ones a sedan, it's just a matter of prefference.

so who won?
