entry level cs position pay

i now actually work in the same department where i got my bachelors and masters in CS. we are in an area of the state with a medium number of job opportunities. the range of salaries i saw, and continue to see here is around $35k-$70k. it honestly depends on where the headquarters of the company is located. the $70k job has the hq in california, and a remote office here, so they pay california rates.

cs does suck, which is why i want to get out of it and into management, which is what this job would allow. if you want a decent job you need to intern during school and go for the big companies, they pay best. getting actual business experience is good. the number of cs majors at my school is decreasing, so i guess that's good at least :)

the company i work for is now technically based in st. paul, minnesota, so that's not gonna help much :) i'm probably going to end up taking this offer, i just want to interview at some other places and see what i can get before making a commitment

Tough it out, kids. My first job I made $26k in an economy worse than this one (1992). Now I make more than 4x that.

jred321 - take the job for the money, live cheap and save it. If you hate it - quit and find something else. In the meantime, take the money and experience. Use the dough to pay for getting your MBA if you want to stay in tech but get out of programming.

haha, so true. i was there this weekend, i hate new jersey
i post on here every day, it's my job :)

the only real thing holding me back from this job is 1)location, and 2) i'm going to be working for 2 months for a company on wall street starting in october, and if i really like it there and they offer me a job i don't really want to already be committed. i know i can always tell my current company that i changed my mind, but i would kinda feel bad. oh well, i got time to think :)

you live in NJ, which is reason enough to contemplate suicide.
haha nice one....freakin masshole, hehe j/k...don't mind me, i'm just alil bitter about the seventh circle of hell that is my life

Graduated last year, and I get $20/hr working full time. I think it comes out to about 40K a year. But my boss is lenient and I slack sometimes, so I don't always get 40 hours a week. I probably make closer to 30K.

besides you jred, is everyone just coding everyday/contemplating suicide?

well, I'm a network admin. But no, it could be worse/more suicidal.

The worst thing about here is the same as a lot of small-ish businesses/corporations - tiny, "lets just get by" IT department. So in a lot of ways I'm my own boss as the only admin...and I'm 23 with limited corporate network experience prior to my 3 1/2 years here. So sometimes that makes for interesting results (and downtime).

I ponder using my BS in CS towards a coding job if I want to go for something that pays more with more directed, frequent work...but then I shudder for about 5 minutes and go back to my world.
