Entering a car show!

2 hours to do split loom and hoses....geez what did he do everything???

It took me at most 30 mins. You don't want to do too many or it looks gawdy.

60 bucks is expensive, especially when it's not that hard and you could save the money to put towards something else. I plan on doing everything myself or having my boyfriend do it...noway I'm paying anyone unless it's something like major engine mods.

Why in the world would you take a new car to a car show? Are there even shows for crap like this? What are you showing off? How well Mazda built the car?

Leave shows for the older cars where people actually fix them up and restore them.

Hey LT1 its usually called an import show or something like that you dumba$$....how about you check your ego at the door before you come in here and start flaming people who are just enjoying their cars....take your crap somewhere else

What's up Kurt?

So, let me get this straight. You buy a NEW car that is perfect pay to have it detailed and roll up to a show? How ghey is that? You did not do s*** but apply for a loan and you want to win a tropy for that?

Please don't tell me some ghey braded hoses matter or I will laugh at you for long time.

Many of us have done minor mods, ive never claimed my car is a huge modd'ed car....When any of us go to the show, i think i speak for all of us in saying, we are there to let others see a car that is a little rare, and see who might wanna look at it...I dont think i will win any trophies or prizes unless i put more money into the car, i might eventually but if i goto the show now I will be going to show some of what Mazda has done, and the little things I have done....keep in mind yes I did not do some of the work Mazda did, but i paid more, for a car with things already done to it, than I wouldve if i had bought a stock Civic which everyone drives and mod that...no different than many of the other guys who buy the stock civic and go pay 10,000 to some mechanic or aftermarket specialist to do it up....so i think your problem is with people who dont do their own work....i do as much as my knowledge lets me, beyond that i have a love for cars, which as you can see many of us here have as well...if you dont like how we like our cars, or the car we like then dont post on the board.

Those shows are tough to really get noticed in. I was in a HIN show in Secaucus NJ last year "in the mazda booth". As you may know I have the FS-ZE engine swap with some polished and painted parts here and there. The whole Japanese JDM front end conversion including badges, headlights, tint, wheels, exhaust, dash kit, shifter, boot, pedals, springs, AND a display board. Even with that it was hard to gain attention. You know how it goes....If it ain't honduh or just ugly...Good luck tho. And disregard the other rude comments from some of the other ppl.

I'm not here to start a flame war!
I've built plenty of show cars for other people{Its my living!}
most of them classics and muscle cars.notice I built them not the owner!!!!! weather its import or classics , most show cars new or old are built by someone else!
I'm not rippin Teresa!!!!!!!! Other peoples cars are how I make my money for my cars!
but props to the home builder:D
My point being, Lt1 dont be narrow minded. Whens the last time you hung a new quarter panel on your own car? or line bored a block? Everybody needs outside help some where down the road!
Don't start flaming just sit back and think about it!

WARNING THIS IS A NO FLAME POST!!!!! JUST MY 5CENTS;)

I restored a 71 monte carlo from the junk yard state to show car quality. I have done odds and ends my other cars as well.

I have pulled front and rear windows with piano wire because of rust and welded in new channels.

I have pulled motor, transmission, and rearend rebuilt all except for the transmission myself.

I have done more sanding, painting, and undercoating that I care to remember.

I spent a day re hanging my doors so they would close perfectly. I spent another day making sure ALL of the body pannels lined up like they should.

I pulled EVERY piece of the interior and re did it myself. I laid sound proofing throughout.

The only things I could not do myself were those things I did not have the equiptment to do. ie paint. I did not have a booth.

When I went to the car show and won 2nd place in my class I was f'n proud.

How in the hell can you tell me that going to a dealership and buying a car and slaping some gay plastic s*** on there is the same thing?

Please do NOT even try and compare the two.

Then why the heck are you in a forum like this? Like you didnt know when you came on this board thats what it would be? SO you came on here just to tell all us that our cars are pointless cuz we didnt build them or do anything to them worth value? Hmmm sounds like you have a lot of time on your hands, which is weird shouldnt u be working on the classic car you have instead of flaming on here?

Sorry but i work my a$$ off to pay for my car, in turn i do not have as much time to work on my car...enough to to small things but no major jobs...working a lot i make money that i can afford a car like this....ontop of all this i goto school full time

when im older and have time do want to restore a classic, once i learn more.

so basically dont come on here to validate yourself by slamming others who bought a car with what it has....so in summing up...shut the hell up or get off the board, you dont have an MP3 and your just here to flame so i couldnt care less what you think!

Ok you have done some work yourself and done a good job !
props on the trophy, but did you get what I was saying?
somebody else did your paint and trans .
so, teresa had some guy do s*** for her. she wasnt able to do.
If she wants to show her car let her!You show yours!
there are Ford guys that will rip on Chevy guys and you get pissed, right! These guys and girls do Mazdas .No right or wrong, just prefferances . I build what I like, you build what you like.
I dont go to muscle car boards to flame and say they blow!
so if you come here, post things from a prospective that isnt biased on what you think is right!!!!!
You are entitled to your opinion!!!!!
I also see your point on showing a new car . but let her! who is it hurting? It is a limited prod car just like a c.o.p.o. 427 camaro was 30 odd years ago!!!!
in 30 years some guy might just be looking for an mp3 or integra type r who knows ? Not me or you! lighten up! :D

Nicley put chitownmp3:D
And LT1 Power, I love all cars all the way from horseless carriages, great muscle cars of the 70's, JDM cars of today and old british roadsters to name a few. I think I am ingenuitive as well....My car has full stand alone programmable engine managment, cutom fabricated turbo system amongst other things allll done by ME!
So why the hell are you on here selling us out?
Threw your infinite wisdom and knowledge do you think I can enter a car show??????
I could give a s*** what u think man.
And by the way you may not know through your ignorance that there is a thing called Import shows.....and its not some show with new cars, it combines many styles and flavors that make up a subculture that is defined in music, dress code and car styles like JDM. It is a wonderfull subculture and people revolve there life around this movement....kinda like the Harley guys that meet up for Daytona and other events. These guys buy new harleys and modify them....does that make them gay?????
I dont think so;)
You need some culture and open your mind up man...visit a Hot import night show and you will truly be amazed. And if you think your to cool for that, well that will just reflect your ignorance.
I go to all kinda shows and just apreciate the fact that people get together and enjoy what they love no matter what it is

My DOLLARS worth.

Finding parts and talking companies into producing parts for this damn car was waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy harder than actually doing my custom fiberglassed stereo system that I spent well over a couple hundred hours doing.

I think the members of this board deserve a lot more credit than you're giving us because our cars are new. For all you know, several of us may have other cars that we show and built, the protege serves as a gorgeous commuter. We figure, it's so nice looking we might as well show it off. You know, show why the car is so cool.

SHOWING A CAR ISN't A MEASURE OF ONLY HOW MECHANICALLY INCLINED YOU ARE. IT has a lot to do with a VISION and how well you can budget your finances and delegate tasks to shops which will make you proud. I love acknowledgin my clients as well as teach them or show them the way. It's a learning experience.

I like seeing other people own the same vehicle as me, even if they have the same s***. They got good taste. hehe.

I'm showing my Protege5 and I even mounted and balanced the wheels myself. Dude, I even put them on the car with a jack. I used a jack, holy s***. hehe. Still going to the show baby.

BTW. Protege5's are a major player in a lot of these shows, it's the featured vehicle, even in stock form.

Good luck with your LS.

Rishie

Try autoxing some of my MP3 buds up here with your big muscled car. I'd be interested in comparing times. hehe.

Got a grand national, but that doesn't belong on this board so I don't speak about it. Not the right time or place. I am a conoiseur, sp?, of the automotive industry and that will never change whether I compete an E46 M3 in stock form with a frikin' exhaust or an old school GN or 454 El Camino. I don't own a E46, but do have a 540i.

Everyone is civilized until big displacements arrive, then all hell breaks loose.

Teresa, I hope all goes well and I have lots of respect for you cause it takes a certain amount of courage to show your vehicle and deal with guys like "L S 1", who do nothing but try to bring you down. IT's not about winning, it's about the experience.

Should we run a GN and LS? LOL!!!! Hope it's not an LS in a Datsun or something, that would be f'''ked. Nah, the GN is all original and stock mint condition with only 60K. Worth a good penny, '87 also.

Teresa is a male name?

Anyways, back when Teresa first posted about entering for the car show, that was probably when the MP3s were even more rare than they are now.

Personally, I don't see anything wrong about entering a brand new car into a car show. I've been to a few import car shows and I have seen stock S2000 back when they first came out entered into the car show as is. No modification except for different color wheels and maybe a logo sticker here and there.

Same to be said about the Toyota MR2 Spyder, I've seen a bone stock version of that car in one of the import car shows back when the MR2 Spyder just came out.

MP3s are even more rare than the Spyder and S2000, so I definitely don't see a problem with showing it off when it first came out. Now if someone intends to show a stock version of the MP3 today... then that would be a little unoriginal and boring since it has been seen and noticed already.

Now there are some good post!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
One more thing , LT1 dont hate the player....hate the game!
Were ALL here cuase of a love for cars not a predisposition against some body elses tastes. chill out .... take in some import shows ,they have given me some great ideas for use on all types of car I've done.:p

Speaking of stock cars in shows...

Back a few years ago when I was still doing audio setups, I was reading one of the car audio mags and found an article about someone who took a stock stereo system and won a low wattage class. I think it was a celica or eclipse or something. Can't exactly remember, but it was basically a week old car that got entered in an audio comp and won their class.
Stock cars can make some waves. Also, I agree it's more about experience.
Hope teresa had fun. That's what it's all about. And I also agree that it was worth it seeing how they only had to fork out an extra $5 and got to be in the show vs. the $5 less and having to park outside. :)

If anything it's a cheap way to get to park your car in a nice indoor environment, make a bunch of new friends with other entrants(it's a lot easier to say this is my car than to describe what you have) and it can give some valuable experience for if you want to get more heavy duty into the competition side of things.
