I'm new to the proteges, I'm a mx6 driver myself but I'm trying to do research on my buddies 97 protege with no luck of knowledge. what engines will drop in and go? It is 97 protege lx 1.6 mtx. anything will help. even if its just a specified search bc everything ive searched turned up nothing

Nothing. You could do a 1.8 bp swap or a klze/de swap but the kl requires a decent amount of work

Are there any of the newer protege engine bolt in? Like the fs block outta the mp3 or mx6?

I dont think he has the 1.6 ZM. I dont think they started using those til '98. He probably has the 1.5 ZL

Your right I'm sorry lol it is the 1.5 does that change anything or still pretty much sol

I dont think it changes much. The ZM had same bore but slightly longer stroke than the ZL, but Ive seen where people can put the intake manifold from the ZM onto the ZL for a little extra power. Like Tweety said, your best bet is probably the BP swap.

The bp motors are better than the fsde. Much better for boost or making any power

I know the bps came in the higher end proteges but I'm not to sure what other fwds had it

Also will his 1.5 tranny bolt up to the 1.8?
