Engine Swaps.

I have plans to aquire a 1991 MX-5 Miata (NA). My question here is, what engine swaps are most common with this particular car. The stock motor is a 1.6, and although that could yield a decent amount of power, I'm looking to get just that much more out of the car.

If I can pull enough money together I would like to turn it into a fast and fun daily driver with enough zip to take it to the track on the weekend.

Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.

look around for some miata sites as well. im sure some people on here can help.....but there are people cramming v8's into miatas.

For cost/ease versus performance, you can't beat the installation of a 1.8L from a later Miata, especially the 99/00 years. The 1.8 simply bolts in with only a handfull of modifications. Add a turbocharger to this combo and you'll have a screaming car.

Other engines have been swapped various other engines into the car including the KL series, the aforementioned V8, rotaries, and even SR20's. Obviously, these will require a lot more overhead.

when I was workign at mazda i know alot of people dumped in a 5.0 ford motor and its almsot jsut bolts in for the most part

lol, a v-8 is a little more than bolt in...

But as Kevin said, the 1.8l can be swapped easiest and if you have all the parts needed on hand can be finished in a weekend.
