Engine Swap

Does anyone have any data about a 99 626 swap into a 95 626. Engines are similar, and 99 'donor' engine hooks up to an automatic, while 95 is a 5 speed. Curious about possible problems and/or unexpecteds...

Well im not sure how to explain this. But you can't really do a swap like that even if the engine are similar. Becase the crank for a manual transmission is set up differently than an automatic. (sorry if im not clear, i know what im saying just dunno how to explain it) First and most obvious reason, automatic trannys are bigger and as attached to the engine and crack differently than a manual transmission seeing as an automatic tranny runs on hydraulic fluid and springs and balls and valves etc. while a manual tranny has a few forks and gears and shafts. (Never taken apart an automatic but have rebuilt a manual tranny) I can go on forever talkin about what won't work but lets not :P. So all this to say, would i say go for it, hell no!, impossible, probably not, nothing is impossible. Difficult, EXTREMELY, if its not actually impossible. Hope I helped you out!

It's not the crank. Typically you can remove the the flexplate (connects the crank to the torque convertor (for the automatic)) and put on a flywheel (connects crank to clutch).

After that, you need to worry about the ECU. The swap you propose would work, but some manual ECUs don't have the programming to control an automatic transmission.
