engine swap?

I dont venture into this part of the board a whole lot since I dont know jack about performance or tech stuff, so this may be a topic that has already been brought up and resolved, or it may not have been brought up because it is simply ridiculous. If either of these is the case, please forgive me....:)

Has anyone considered the logistics of a 2.3l mazda 6 swap into a protege? in stock form it is 160hp/155tq, and it is rumored to be the basis for the mazdaspeed 6 which will put out 280hp, so it has significant potential.....

just curious

the 6 looks a lot bigger, and the engine bay may very well be, but just looking at overall dimensions on edmunds, and one of the spy shots of them side by side in canada, the two seem awful close in size

i'm sure you can fit it. you might have to remove/relocate things and maybe cut some of your f.wall but it can be done.

i think the engine mounting, tranny placement and wiring are gonna be the big steps though...

I really don't know for sure...but I wouldn't bet a dime on it....

of course ANYTHING can be done if you have enough money...but I don't know if the engine is even a direct bolt up to the tranny....its not the same block that we have....then there is flywheel size/clutch configuration....and a whole lot more.......

Also the 6's exhaust mani is in the rear and the intake in on the front. You would probably run into some problems due to that.

Yeah, the new Mazda 6 engine will probably take tons of fabricating to install. Now a slightly better swap might be a 2.5 KL-ZE (V6), but it will still need fabrications. They make around 200HP and when you put them into a Mazda MX-3, they will fly. If only the KL-ZE swapped into our cars as easily as the MX-3.
