engine swap/rebuild

it should just pull right out.this is the way i did it. i guess its just backwards. you unbolt the hub from the shock and let it dangle for some slack. (do this before you pull out the ball joint) then pry the driver's side axle out of the tranny (very hard), the passenger side should pull right out. then you pull the axles right out of the hub. if they don't come out then use a lead hammer on the part you took a pic of.

you don't need to pull out the ball joints until you reinsert the axles.

and watch your brake lines

to remove the axles completely, unbolt the spindle from the strut... thread the axle nut back on until the outside is flush with the end of the shaft (you MUST do this so you won't damage the threads of the axle)... get a big hammer and pound the axle off the splines from the wheel hub.... remove the nut once the axle is loose in the spindle... get a big pry bar if necessary and pry the LCA downwards while pulling the upper part of the spindle towards you to get enough room to bend/flop the axle out... then you can pry the axle off the tranny

I haven't worked on my car for a while, I'm still on removing the the axle from the hub. I've been so lazy. I need to get my car running soon though before school starts again in September. But in the mean time, I have been picking up some parts. Keep an eye out.

Finally got the driveshaft off the hub on the passenger side. Now I am having problems getting it out from the transaxle side. I already got the outer ring loose but it seems like it is not coming out even though I am hitting it out.

Any ideas?

pull really hard.

didn't I tell you to give proper advice before?

pulling that s*** will cause the axles to pop off their joints

LIKE I SAID... use a big prybar and pry on the axle against the tranny

How many miles were on the motor that blew up, and did you drive conservatively or like a madman? I'm asking because I want to know about the durability of these motors. Do they snap if you beat on them?

I don't really have enough leverage to pry the green piece out and I've tried using a stick and a hammer but nothing happens much. Am I suppose to get that piece out or that other bar right before the engine block? Here's a pic:

Grab a hammer and an extension u dont care about preferably around 12 inches long. put the extension on the green part of the axle (i found using the female end was easier to keep in place) then hit the extension on the male end, it should loosen it up. Be careful not to let it drop and ruin the splines on it!!

Hopefully this helps

I had the immediate shaft unbolted at first but then bolted it back on to the block to try to get the green part off. Am I suppose to get the intermediate shaft off instead of the driveshaft?

I pulled it after i pulled the axle.

I finally got the motor out! practically had to take off every motor/tranny mount to do it but I did. It's gonna be a pain putting in the motor. Had to take the motor out with the axle still on it. I think I'm going to have to rebuild the axle because it's all twisted.

I just finished doing all that last weekend, took the engine out Saturday and had the new one in Sunday around 8pm, only I had more of a problem with the drivers side cv joint/axel I ended up just leaving it on when I pulled the engine and trans. Out.
It is all running great though, I will try to get some after pix. Good luck man
:)

I'm going to need all the help I can when I put the motor back in. I can't remember where all the bolts and plugs go!

Damn guys, I just spun a rod bearing, I wish I had the time to replace it myself. Anyone want to make some cash ...lol I dread taking it somewhere. But If anyone knows a descent shop or tech, I would gladly take it there.
