1995 626, protege
I have a 1995 626 LX 4cyl 2.0 manual trans and a 1995 protege LX 1.5 4cly was wondering if i could put the 626 engine in the protege with out a problem the motor mounts look like they are in the position as the 626 the reson y want to do this is becuase i crashed the 626 and i had put headers, intake and MSD and since i already have a protege. I think the power to weight ratio and fuel conssumption would be great since the protege is lighter.Any help please.

The '95 Protege was also available with the 1.8L BP motor. I have a feeleing that the motormounts for the 1.8L will be a closer fit to the 2.0L 626 motor than the 1.5 mounts. You'll need to swap wiring harnesses and ECUs as well.

would it be easy to swap the wiring harness? IM not trying to buy an engine since i already have the 2.0 didn't the new protege com with a 2.0 similar to the 626

Yea...the 3rd gen Proteges (yours is 2nd Gen) came with basically the same 2.0L as the 626 except 3rd Gen Proteges have electronic ignition and the 626 had a distributor. The wiring harness shouldn't be very hard to swap out. You just need to check the compatability of the 626 ECU and wiring harness with your stock 1.5L gauges and dash lights. That would probably require a lot of snooping under the dash of both cars to see how each wiring harness connects.
