Engine Problems

I know their are a million + threads about the smoking issue but I decided to start another due to what has been discovered. It has all the symptoms of a faulty turbo minus any oil buildup inside of it. So the tech calls mazda and they run a few more tests, one being a compression and another for the valves inside the engine. Through this they discover there is oil buildup inside on the valve covers and according to him they have a team at mazdatech working on this since it is a new issue. I will update this next week when he tells me what they decide to do, as of right now he is waiting on them for a solution or to send one of their own out to the dealership. Regardless this is not good news since any issues inside an engine is never a good sign, especially one with less than 11000 miles on it.

wow i was really gung-ho about buying either a MS6 or a MS3 but didnt have the money. Now im glad I didnt with all these smoking problems on the 6 and bad trans bolts on the 3s...

The only thing i really hate about this car is the clutch which im trying get fixed. I have a downpipe and i have no smoke so its not like thats with every car.

Well they explained it wrong the first time or I heard it wrong, it wasnt oil buildup but rather carbon buildup on the valve springs causing them to stick. They de-carbonized and thought that fixed it, called me to tell me it was fixed then shortly after it began to smoke again, so once again they are waiting for mazdatech to call them back.

QUICK QUESTION: I know one person on another forum said mazda bought their car back, anyone know how serious of an issue it has to be for this to happen? I thought about the Lemon Law but I know there are alot of catches with that...And its my understanding the car has to be completely stock for the lemon law correct?

Well the completely stock thing would only make sense wouldn't it?

If they know you modded it, they will probably stop giving a s*** about anything you say.

No actually the service tech that works on my car is real cool about it...I think the issue would rise if they sent a mazda rep out, but its only a dp so they would have a hard time proving my mod screwed up the car. And the dealer does all the oil changes so that would be their issue. But its had two oil changes since the issue first came up.

Update

Well its been almost three weeks since the last time I dropped the car off and unfortunately I had to pick it up early due to leaving on vacation for a couple of weeks. From what I have been told they did another compression test and found cylinders 2 and 4 to be leaking. Mazda wants the tech to take the engine apart then they will send one of their own out to look at it. Due to needed the vehicle back by friday this will have to wait till I return in mid august. They said they are not responsible for the vehicle while it sits on the lot, so if they were to fix it on tuesday it would sit for two weeks open to the elements as well as whomever decides to f*** with it after hours. Will update after they decide what they want to do with the car.

I dont have insurance to pay for something that I can prevent. The last thing I want to do is pay a 500$ deductible when i get back in town and then the difference when my insurance goes up from the claim.

Armyguy,

I was the guy that had the lemon law. First, in your supplimental warranty book (In your glove box with owners manual) it states three things to qualify you for a lemon law buy back. Forgive me, this is from memory:

1.) Car is in the shop for the same issue for 30 days or more.

2.) Problem persists 3 or more times and no solution is found.

3.) Problem could cause injury or death.

If any one of these things is true you are eligable for a lemon law buy back. You mentioned "does the car have to be stock", that depends if the problem is related to the aftermarket parts. If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me and I'll help if I can.

Jim
