The 2.5 gasser route is the safe but boring route, and one that all other Japanese, American, and Korean manufacturers are taking. Mazda really has to distinguish themselves; I think the Diesel is the right route to show how they are different. It's what all German auto manufacturers are doing and everyone seems to want to copy them.
To avoid the class action lawsuit, Mazda should pay for every second or third oil change until they can find a fix. I think reducing the oil change intervals to 7.5k miles is a good idea. Now if Mazda can find a way to keep the oil from rising before you hit that mark, its got a somewhat permanent fix.
