ENGINE MISS PROBLEM......
Hi,
I have a JDM '98 Familia (BJ5 SP20 shape, bt the 1.5 dohc, vvt) and if you put ya foot down it has a real flat feel to it, a general missing sound to the exhaust note and just no acceleration until the revs get up( its usual pretty pepy) and only happens some times. It back fires every now and then and Im pretty sure I heard a "pop" for the air box (I have removed all the factory plastic piping so just the air box remains). also has the coil per 2 cylinder setup which I dont know much about (Im old school, dizzy caps and carbs)
So to Me I think Its a firing problem which in turn could be the coils or ...? Ive also pulled the spark plug out and they are spotless.

Any suggestions? Is this a common problem?

Cheers, Paul

If there is any mojor probs ur ck engine light should be on. It could be starving for fuel, when was the last time a tune up was done?

No check light. Ive only had it three months. and the people we brought it off sent it for servicing regulary(we have ther receipts). I dont want to take it to a mechainic for somthing simple that I can do, If i knew what it was.

have them run a diagnostic check for you. You will have to pay but at least they can tell you what it may be?

Don't ever pay a mechanic or a dealership to pull codes for you. There are so many auto parts stores (e.g., Autozone, O'Reilly's, Advance Auto) that will do it for free. And for the price that most mechanics charge, you can buy a decent code reader for yourself.

they will read it for free. i know. pepboys, autozone. it still isn't going to help him if he has no idea how to go about it and where the problem may be. Pay the 80 bucks and see what they find. Then he can decide if he can fix it or not, but at least he knows where the problem is. That is where i was going with that.
