Engine Light Question...

Hello,

I was driving my 2006 Mazda6 today and when I got out I smelt gas.. I looked around and under the car and I didn't see any so I drive away. Then when I stopped again I noticed the check engine light was on. I immediately pulled out the manual and it mentioned a few possible causes. The last one was to check the gas cap, sure enough it was not on properly. I am assuming this is why I smelt gas and why the engine light went on. If this is the case when would the light shut off, I was told by a friend who had the same issue and it took a few days before the sensor reset.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

Jackie

MODS - this should be moved to the appropriate sub forum based on the year of the vehicle

You could always disconnect the negative battery cable to clear the cel from showing, then drive around for a while and see if it pops back on.
