my check engine light came on recently on my 07 mazda3. i heard it could be because the gas cap wasn't put on properly and i noticed the last time i filled up the attendent didn;t put it on properly. has anyone else had this before and will the light go off on it's own or do i need to take it in?

uh. tighten the gas cap.... go for a drive, the car will correct the CEL.

Or just go get it read at autozone.

Live in NJ?

Might want to bring it by a mazda dealership even, that will be under warranty as long as you're not branded. mazda3 gas caps are about $50, but if it's throwing a CEL then it will be under warranty.

They replaced mine because they couldn't get a good seal with it. It's warrantied...take advantage and you won't have to worry with it again.

The dealer will probably just tighten the cap properly and charge you to reset the light. It was not a fault in any part except the operator the vehicle.

Just put the cap on properly, it may take a couple of drive cycles for it to reset.
