2002 Yellow P5
Easy question for the smart ones. Is the 2001 MP3 ES 2.0L engine the same as the 2002 P5's. I'm looking at one to buy....thanks.

Okay, R2Di2c2Do, I spend way to much time in these huge forums as it is....
I didn't want to waste time searching for the answer when all I needed was a yes or no, thanks mp3moose!! And no, I haven't blown my engine but I will be going turbo so I might want to get a used one to strengthen...thanks!

the 2.0 liter in the Kia Sportage is also the same engine - PLUS - it is ALL iron and has been thought to be able to handle more punishment than the version in our cars.

yeah, its crazy i know! but the FS engine was in a lot of different cars - i had a list, i'll try and dig it up when i get home from colorado.

The Kia engine is an FE, if I am not mistaken, and the Protege engine is an FS. ALSO, the engine in the MP3 is the same with the exception of the intake manifold.

i thought for sure the later Sportages were equipped with an FS series - I might be mistaken, but I'm not going to drive around asking Kia owners to open their hoods to prove myself right :)

The engine / tranny combo is still on ebay for $300 I think

so instead you took upon a selfish act to waste everyone else's time?

False judegement there buddy. And you're a senior member!? I did a quick search (5 min) and could not find that exact answer so instead of wasting time on a yes or no question I asked it! That is what forums are for and I got the perfect response...until now! Besides, I am sure someone else would like to see a current post rather than have to search around. Thanks to those who helped and I am now unsubscribing from this thread...can't take the heat! ouch it burns!

The Man someitimes forgets which forum he is posting in... He must think is he still in the "other" protege forum, lol.
Just thinking about it brings back some horrid memories.
