ECU ReFlash to MP3 Option

hey kudakev, did u have to have an mp3 to flash yours or did ur buddy just download the map from the internet or something?

According to a couple accounts the dealership can reflash without another MP3 present. Just have to find a dealer that will do it and understands why you would want to ...

Sorry to revive an old thread, but is this true? (dealerships able to flash ecm with mp3 program?)

If so what is the difference? If it's just timing most of the time car dealerships are able to advance or retard timing a couple of degrees. I wouldn't mind having it done.

I would think if they wanted to extract more power it would also lean out the fuel maps a little?

Dealerships won't just "have" the MP3 ECU map on hand. You'll need to have a willing MP3 owner's car there in order to allow this (+ any fee)

It doesn't really work like that--the software for the P5 and MP3 aren't fine-tunable--it's a total package. You have to go with full engine management (microtech) to get the kind of control you're talking about. The MP3 software advances the timing and smoothes out the fuel curve, but it requires premium fuel to make the extra power.

Anyway, the opportunity to get the reflash on the other forum died, so we're pretty much back to where we were before all this started--waiting for one to become available at a reasonable cost.

Some dealerships can reflash your ECU to MP3 specs but you need two Proteges present. None of my local dealerships expressed any interest in doing it--in fact, they said it was impossible.

I went to my dealer and asked if they would do it, the Shop Manager looked at me as if I had green skin, laughed at me, and said no. We looked up the "MP3" on their computer and they didnt find anything called an MP3 for any year, nor ever heard of it. I even looked at all the cars they had listed on the screen and I didnt see it.
It's a rare car, good luck finding it. I read on another forum that Protege Garage is looking into providing the service.?.

yeah ken was looking into it.
my local dealer said they would do it, but they don't know how and mazda canada pissed on them for asking. another member lucked out in finding one, and she's gonna try to flash her stock one to exchange with me. we're both in the process of moving, so i dont know when its goin down

I'll trade, straight up, a full MSP turbo conversion for this little 'pot o' gold' ;)

seriously.

Pot of gold???? Are you talkin about the MP3 ECU or the means to transfer the data??? Cause I'll trade my MP3 ECU for a full turbo kit any damn day....There is no comparison...

ugh, I'm tired, and my sarcasm was lost lol.

However, if someone seriously wants to trade me a turbo kit for my MP3 ECU, PM me. I'll do the trade, then have you committed to an asylum lol

Well, if you were able to flash the MP3 program onto the P5...You'd be able to make some easy scratch...Prob enough to buy that turbo...

Hey P-Funk, hows the tokico/eibach combo? i was thinking about getting that myself... do you have a pic of the drop?

that's true, however to get it done the 'easy' way requires 2 cars. Unfortunately it's extremely difficult (as we've come to find) to mass-produce reflashed stock computers. I went the punk route and bought mine from someone who got bored w/ their N/A build and went F/I lol

EDIT: We have PMs for a reason. Let's try to keep it on topic :p

ktnxbye

Wow...Threadjack...Search around and you'll find pictures of a hundred Eibach/Tokico combo pictures...

FYI...I think Eibachs ride "FLOATY"...too soft...

I think it has been a great combo - outstanding handling and still very comfortable daily driving. Do It.

ok, enough of the thread jack(jacked)

Yah I asked my dealership if they could reflash my ecu to an MP3 and they said "where did you here that, on a forum?". lol Yah so they seemed to think it wasn't possible. Wow, I dislike stupid people!
