ECU ReFlash to MP3 Option

Has anyone get there stock ECU reflashed to a different model before at a Mazda dealership?? All dealerships have all mazda model maps so I called my mazda dealership to see if he would do it and he was all sketchy about it and seemed to not beleave it was possible. So if anyone has done this with any model let me know??

^^ last I checked the dealerships didn't have all the maps, hence why they need to have an MP3 ECU present to do the flash.

exactly. That's why you need 2 cars physically there for it to work. They don't have a map sitting on a computer that they can just send to the ECU, they need to pull it off of one and onto the other.

They said they had access to all maps through Mazda, but he seemed more worried about a copy write law about it. So has anyone done this before at a dealership??

I went to my local mazda stealerships asking about reflashing the ECU. They both told me it was impossible to do it on "older" Mazdas. I can't decide if they're ignorant or just full of s***. Either way they're not helpful. I haven't heard of anyone who's actually done this. Have you?

One of my buddy's got his ECU reflashed in his MSP, but he just got it reflashed to his original MSP map. It was only $70 for it. So I can't remember if I ever heard anyone do this with a different model map at a dealership or not??

Yeah but the reflash for the MSP was just an update to the firmware, they probably didn't even do a full flash of the memory.

People have had it done, and yes, at the dealership.. but you gotta have a Protege MP3 available to have it done.
