E-brake trick - Does it actually work?

Thanks for the videos with MS6's that are much more heavily modded (big turbo upgrade, turbo back exhaust) than mine. And was it an older model GTI you were racing?

Ya lol something is wrong. GTI's are slow :(. Are you shifting at 5500 rpm ??? Maybe your leaking boost. Unless that GTI is heavily modified. What year is it?

Yes shifting at 5500, I just got the turbo replaced less than 2 months ago, all seems well with it but who knows. It's an '08 GTI.

2008-Gti-200hp/207trq 14.8 96mph
06-07-Ms6-274hp/280trq 14.0 99mph thats from mags ive seen alot better times for ms6 but also the trap speeds are dif too just trapping 3mph more means on a roll you would def take em

From a dig, I get several car lengths on him and as long as I shift well I keep that lead on him. But from a roll starting about 40ish mph up, he starts to creep on me. I don't know what the deal is. The 3 mods I have done all seem tight. I'm planning on getting an AP soon, I guess then I can take a closer look and see if my car is under-performing for some other reason.

Keep in mind that discussion of street racing on this forum is strictly forbidden. To this point I'm going to give everyone the benefit of the doubt that you're talking about racing at the strip.

I don't want to give infractions and I'm sure nobody wants to get one. Let this be the "proverbial" warning.

Ok has anyone taken into consideration the weight of the cars? I'm sure the GTI weighs alot less than the speed 6 and the power to weight ratio is probably pretty close for both of us. And like someone said maybe it's a factory freak engine, i know a speed 3 with just intake and inlet pipe that can hang with a 300zxTT on 13psi and a ecu reflash at the track.

not that you should be discussing rolling races in this particular forum, but you def. need a driver mod, GTI is definitely not quicker in any sense of the word, their torque curve is even lower than ours. a K04 A/M FMIC APR stage 2 GTI owned by my best friend cannot even catch up in our totally legal races in mexico at the track with police escort lol.

As I said earlier, in our completely legal rolling races on a closed course, with the best of shifting, while the cars are in gear his car creeps away. He doesn't gain on me in the shifts. So as far as a driver mod goes, unless I've become such a bad driver that I'm having trouble pushing the gas pedal down once in gear, I don't think that will help. Why does does everyone seem to be commenting about races involving one or both of the cars being much more heavily modded than in our case anyway?

Something is definitely not right here, a bone stock GTI will not win from a roll, there is no way. First try brake boosting, but even without brake boosting you should still get right back up from his jump. Oh and the handbrake up one click works, try it your self, put it up one click in first gear and mash the throttle :) sometimes it takes 2 clicks to disengage the AWD.

Awesome, someone finally commented on the original question. Do you actually use this trick when your racing in 100% legal closed course races? And do you notice much difference?

One person even mentioned that they had rigged a switch so that after launching and then shifting into 2nd gear he would hit this switch and finish out the rest of the gears in FWD.

That was me. I can post video after this weekend to prove this works. I have a swtich to fully disengage the rear wheels so the car is full time FWD after I get a AWD launch and disengage after 2nd gear.

Does it actually make a difference? Like do you make more power becuase its FWD only

DEFINITELY! Once the rear wheels disengage the car pulls much harder. If you hold the throttle down at a constant 25% with AWD on and then turn off the AWD, the car at teh same throttle position will just take off becasue of less resistance.
