E-brake trick - Does it actually work?

dude i turned off the tcs nd pulled the ebrake 1 or 2 clicks and nothing. floored it in first and i still rocket launch.. wtf i dont get it?

honestly i have no idea how this concept works i just know that it does. my tires spun because i have bald tires so the just spun alot easier. also try to do a 1st to 2nd no lift shift see if you get any slippage then.

i had to click 3 times... it not always works tho it weird... i spun too

It finally rained out here in San Diego, and it works for sure. My tires are pretty new so I haven't really tried to hard in dry conditions with the switch on cause I was not sure if it really worked and it just feels wrong after gettin used to the AWD haha. Now i'll feel more comfortable cause I was spinnin the fronts on the wet pavement with ease

sry if someone already said this... but sounds like 1 you either didnt turn ur dsc buttom on(aka turb dsc off... since i gotta push that darn buttom every time the car is turned off since its on by default at start)

if you push that buttom ur car will stop applying the breaks... and ull have a chance, cuz the moment a wheel looses traction itll cut power to throttle or apply brakes

2... you need a tuneup... something might be really worn out or leaking and ur car is just hanging in there enough not to throw a CEL... check your IC boost tubes... cuz those things dont wanna stay on at all... same for your turbo inlet hose... one overboost to recirc valve dump will pop that puppy half way off

anyways hope that helps... i race'd my friend(at the track) in his stage 2 GTI and we were pritty even... at a roll... off the line there was no question(mind u this is with me shifting like s*** cuz i only owned the car for two or three weeks at that point)

make sure to replace the stock bpv... and add a AP.... if you wanna see ur buddy cry

I had checked to make sure everything was tight before and after posting this thread and it was. Since then I got a BPV which I could feel held boost much better. It could have been that the BPV was leaking badly and thats why the top end runs were lacking. Now I have several more mods, BPV, TMIC, TP and RMM. I had an AP for about 2 months and my friend refused to run me, on a closed track of course. AP's gone now but I'm confident that I'm holding a lot more boost and things would be much different. Thanks though.

For the fwd mode to work you have to be moving and then pull the e-brake or switch if you have one wired. Also you have to have a little bit of power applied then you will feel the car jerk forward just a hair then you know its out of awd mode. Also once you come to a complete stop with it in fwd mode the only way you will burn tires is to take a shark left or right and nail it just before you straighten up. Doing this you will burn through 1st and second no problems. While taking off in a straight line the car will go back into awd mode. I dont know why it does this but this is from my experience. I have yet to get a fwd launch. I end up bogging down because its back in awd. Is also fun when your burning through 2nd to click it back into awd then the car slams you back in the seat. I have done this once and im sure its not good for your rear electro clutch.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't go "back" into AWD with the switch, it is the TCS cutting the power when the wheels spin.... You MUST turn off the DSC!

holy crap, AWD/FWD at will... would by kickass.
AWD from a dig races, and FWD from a roll races...

im thinkin i might rig up the handbrake/AWD off switch!!
Anyone hear of any issues with this mod yet?

I have been doing it for a while now no problems. You will get a lot of torque steer in fwd mode so hold on! Its a little bit faster but not a drastic difference.

am i the only one that has no interest in this mod? just curious.

also i've raced a gti, literally on an 1/8th mile track and killed it. i kicked a lot of ass that day and i suck at drag racing. my best 1/4 mile was a 14.5 over the summer. so yeah i suck at the straight line stuff.
in short i'd be concerned for your car. maybe there's something wrong as others have said. poor vacuum, boost leak?

I know this is a pretty big thread bump, but I'm helping out my friend (Speed_J23) to do the FWD switch mod, and I was wondering if there was an easy way to remove the center section in order to get to the e-brake wire described in that DIY on page 4.

PM'd.

Also the car boost more in fwd. I will be doing some datalogs when the weather here is decent for comparisons.
