For all of you saying you can't drift an AWD car.........what about the Skylines and the Evos that I've seen in the D1 competitions? Hmmm?
rwd conversion i would think. for example, RMR built this evo for the fast and furious 3 so it could drift http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfz6deDU1Wk

edit: or, since a majority of skylines produced are RWD, they could just use one of those. on the gtr before the r34 i believe switching awd and rwd is fairly simple, for some reason i'm thinking on the r33 it's as simple as pulling a fuse but i could be totally wrong on that one

Any car can be coaxed into oversteer or ever a four-wheel drift, but "drifting" as in the fad sport requires more throttle on oversteer with or without the help of a scandanvian flick and e-brake to induce the slide. 4WD and less then 50% of the power going to the rear wheels will kill your ability to sustain a true controlled drift - unless (even this is questionable) the surface is gravel filled and or wet like in the Top Gear vid.

the r32 and the r34 have the ability to switch from RWD to AWD with the ease of flicking a switch

the r33 requires you to crawl under the car to disconnect the connector/fuse for the set up

but the r34s I've seen drifting have smoking from all 4 tires.... which gives the idea they are drifting it AWD, and not RWD.

and I can't believe they built an evo with a RWD conversion......what a waste :(

well like you said if you have enough power going to the rear wheels, and you have enough horsepower to break them loose, you can drift an AWD car (2thumbs)

it was for f&f 3, that entire movie is a waste. i know for a fact there's an orange STI in D1 that they did a RWD conversion to

it is possible that they drift with awd it's just tough to get the same angle and have the same control you have with rwd so a rwd conversion makes more sense. in a rwd car 2 of your tires still have full traction to help control the car and keep you going where you want, in awd your front tires have to break traction to get the all wheel drift going so your steering tires have minimal traction. you also need higher speed to initiate and more power to maintain the drift given you have to break traction on all 4 wheels instead of just 2

ps - i hate drifting

I know exactly what you mean, that's why people who are ACTUALLY able to do a controlled prolonged slide with an AWD car (very few of them) are considered some VERY good drifters.... yeah F&F3 was a waste, I saw it only to check out the cars they used in the movie (I loved that s15, but putting an sr20det into a mustang fastback? wtf lol)

I like drifting but more for fun, I'm not a diehard gotta see it all the time fan.... that's what auto-x is for (drive2)

oh it was an RB26?

Didn't pay that much attention to the movie towards the end, cause it became stupid, just thought it was a redtop sr20 (uhm)

Thanks for that...

Yeah, waste of a good fastback, It would have been better with a V8, lol

A Mazdaspeed6 will get completely sidewise around tight corners and throttle - end of story...

A Mazdaspeed6 will NOT hold a sideways motion while spinning the rear tires through a sweepet - end of story...

Summary - You can swing your ass end out, but it won't stay out there, that is the AWD's job!

HAHA wow a lot of posts since i last checked up,

well mister wiggum just yesterday i held a drift for approx. 60 eh maybe 63.5 feet ;), it was sick around a huge round-about (a good 80 ft dia. center i would say). then i popped the ass end back the other way lol and almost hit a little median because i was busy watching this joggers jaw hit the sidewalk LOL

how can you not like drifting? even if you don't do it. drifting for me is well worth the adreniline rush, and the reaction you get from people that watch you do it.

FINALLY A NICE SUMMARY!

You might be able to drift an AWD if you put gobs and gobs of HP in so you can break all the tires free from the pavement. And yes a bunch of those AWD cars drifting have been RWD conversions and many have been in magazines showing their RWD capabilities.

But a almost stock speed6 drifting...nope...not happening...maybe sliding around a little, but not a REAL drift. And until I see a vid from the 19 year old kid who says he wont make a vid till he beefs up the car...yet keeps posting that he is doing 60ft plus drifts anyways...i wont believe it.

if you are doing all this drifting why dont u just take a friend out and have them video tape it? You keep saying that you know its possible because you are doing it anyways, so why not just video tape one of the many times you have supposedly done it??

I bet he doesnt like drifting because...

1.) he likes keeping his ride in one piece
2.) because its dangerous and you risk killing yourself, other drivers, and anyone walking on the sidewalk nearby
and
3.) Because drifting is a gay Japanese fad that wastes tires and differentials!
